Fabspeed CAI and IPD Plenum on 997.2 Carrera 4S
I got the two pieces from a member of this forum who gave me good prices. He himself upgraded to X51 package.
Finally got them installed on my 997.2 4S PDK, I am excited to share the experience.
The idle is as smooth as before, and no complains from the computer at all. There is improvement in how the engine sounds and revs overall but most noticeably at 4,400 rpm and above, the roar is more deep and aggressive all the way to 6,500 rpm (where I normally shift or the PDK shifts for me in Sports mode), the increased torque can definitely be felt without a dyno test. Very enjoyable!
This is my first upgrade. I can see myself going down the path of exhaust, ECU, and maybe eventually a bolt-on turbo or super charger

Looks real nice. Would like to have that on my First Gen 4S. I have the single filter CAI. I've wondered if the duct that sends the air to the filter is in that stock position or direction the air will actually flow towards to rear of the engine.
I looked at mine and when the lid is closed the duct actually sends the air towards the rear of the engine bay. I have a "heat shield" however not much heat is shielded there. The intact such be able to suck in more air since it's in an open area, but you don't get that forced air injection as you would with the stock box sealed. I guess this debate will carry on back and forth. I noticed increased power on the upper end, at least from 4000 and up, which I would say is due to the car moving and the air rushing in through the intact...the should is amazing at the higher revs...but wouldn't do this mod for just the sound. Are you going to Dyno your car to see where you are at now?
I'm trying to find a 4 wheel dyno in the SF Bay Area so I can see where I'm at now with the CAI and my Softronic Flash.

There will probably be a turbocharger system available for the 997.2 sometime in the future (I believe TPC is working on one), but I don't know of any tuner developing a supercharger. If you intend to eventually go the forced induction route, stop with the engine modifications now, because all but the plenum will have to come out. The reflash will be lost altogether. You will spend about half the cost of the turbo system for normally aspirated components that will collectively make at most 20 to 30 horsepower.
That's a good point. I guess I won't go crazy on mods, I am just saying it.

Thanks for the comments. The ducts sit right on top of the two cones, they should send in some fresh cold air. Hopefully that counters some of the concerns of the heat from the engine bay. I touched the cones and pipes right after some aggressive driving yesterday, they felt barely warm (I know it is Fall not Summer). In practice, I felt gains not losses, so I decided not to worry about it.
I am hoping that VF-Engineering will develop a supercharger kit for 997.2 once they come out of factory warrantee. I don't know much about cars, but I am under the impression that a supercharger maybe easier to install, a bit less expensive, and a bit more low-end torque compared with turbos?

I had a mechanic friend help me install. Now I saw how it was done, and if you had the tools (mostly just toque bits), you could do it yourself. It does take some effort putting the plenum back and make sure it fits perfectly in place, and the brackets can close up tightly.
I did not do dyno test, so the HP and torque gain was "felt" by myself, not scientifically measured. I am very familiar with my car, and I do tend to pay attention to details, I do believe the gains are there and not purely imaginal. I can't put a number to it.

Thats the setup I had on my 997.2S, I got the softronic tune and tubi exhaust with center muffler delete in addition to what you have. All 4 mods made such a substantial difference to the car. I returned it to stock before I sold it back to the dealer and it was so freakin slow and quiet.
Glad to hear. I assume that you sold the tubi exhaust already? Otherwise I would be interested in buying it from you. Thanks.
