Can you recommend a polish? I've had no luck with the local auto store brands!

As soon as I saw this product I had my reservations about it, feeling it was probably some odd re-fomulation of clearcoat paint coming from Duplicolor. While that may not be accurate, it looks like it was still wise to avoid it.

I spoke to a real person at Sherwin Williams today and was able to obtain a claim number. I would like to say she seem very concerned about what had happened. I sent more pictures and am now waiting to here back. One positive step forward towards a resolution!

Update:

Hello again Jon,

I have a good new - bad news answer for you.
Good news is I have bounced this off an expert that has worked on rims for years and is familiar with the problem and was able to provide a solution.

Bad news is: it will take an additional step to correct.

Please see information below and again I would be more then happy to send you the product he is recommending, The High Performance Wheel coating clear to redo the effected areas, once the discoloration is removed. PART # HVP103.

After viewing the pictures of the issue at hand, this is what is happening to the clear-coated rims.
It is a pre-existingproblem that happens all the time to clear-coated OEM/After-market rims.
The clear coating that is depicted in the submitted photographs shows road debris chips on the surface of the clear, that's why the marks are only showing up in certain areas and not over the entire area.

What occurred:
After the customer sprayed the Tire Shine onto the surface of the tire the excess product got onto the surface of the clear-coat of the rim.
When the customer went to wipe off the excess Tire Shine product off the rim more than likely the same applicator that was used on the tire was used on the rim which was dirty. or the dirt was carried with the product to the surface,
It appears that the clear coating was chipped and delamination was occurring in that area the customer inadvertently pushed the dirt and dust in between the rim and the clear-coating. Now the dirt is trapped and regular solvents and cleaning agents can't get to the affected area to have any effect.

Remedy:
Wet sand the affected chip area with black Emery Cloth 60-90 grit to smooth out and un-trapped the dirt that is between the rim and the clear.
Apply PART # HVP103 to replace and spot blend the clear into the surrounding areas.

Please email and address where you would like for me to send this product.
Thank you,
Calli Kleopfer-Behm

What a horrible solution! Let me save you a huge headache and just suggest you take it to a wheel repair guy for a respray and send Dupli-color the bill.

I'm hoping they offer that solution soon! I'm getting ready to start a few projects on the car, so having it sit without wheels is perfect timing.

Call me a lair why don't you

Thought I would share the latest update. I visited a local wheel repair shop that Sherwin Williams recommended. The shop is a one man team that actually had several pairs of oe Porsche wheels in for repair. Though the wheels he was repairing looked good, they did not look oe. The shop owner wet sanded a small area with 1000 grit paper which determined the Tire Shine product was deep in the finish of my wheels. He said that he could repair the finish, but it would not be 100%. We both agreed that I should not settle for anything less. This was the response I received from Sherwin Williams after the talked with the repair shop. Gotta love customer service!

Hello Jon,

I have been working on this case the last couple of days even though you have not heard from me, sorry for the delay.
We did hear back from Roger and I have gone back to the brand to ask about the possibility of replacing the rims for you.

At this time, based on the evaluation that has been done to date and the information provided by our lab regarding this product,
we cannot conclude that the product, Tire Shine has caused the discoloration.
The base chemistry of this product is simply not strong enough to be able to adversely effect or discolor a true OE powder coat finish.

At this point, this case will be escalated to our claims team-
With that being said, please be advised that more information and understanding of the application and clean-up efforts may be needed. I have advised them on everything you have shared with me thus far.
The pictures and receipts that you have sent have all been attached to the case.
There is the possibility that they may ask that one, if not all of the rims ( that were" effected" ) be sent in for evaluation.

The case # will remain the same.
What can you do in the mean time?
Please send in the original receipts of the two Duplicolor products purchased to :
101 Prospect Ave
Cleveland, OH 44115
CASE# 36987-102912
Attn: Claims 655 GH
along with :
If you would like the rims replaced. Provide an estimate regarding this amount.

The claims team will be contacting you as soon as possible.
Please note that providing the estimates does not guarantee that the request will be met.

Thank you,
