Throttle Body Cleaning

I took my intake hose off last night to see if I could plug the resonator with a cap. I saw my throttle body looking pretty dirty. I don't know much about this kind of thing. Please let me know if it needs attention and any advice on how to do it would be great. Thanks.

You should clean it. I use a clean cloth and some cleaning solution that dries "residue-free", like CRC MAF Cleaner or CRC Electronics Cleaner - available at Walmart (no affiliation).

Some people have reported getting improved performance after cleaning similar dirty throttle bodies.

I cleaned everything up right away, but I am finally getting these pics up. I replaced the filter, cleaned the air box inside and out, cleaned the throttle body, and added a plug to the resonator. It drives and sounds great!

Got your monies worth out of that air filter !!!! Throttle body looks great though. You will notice some improvement in throttle response as a result of both.

Nice work looks nice and clean now How many miles did you have on the air filter ? Or do you just live in a dry area ?

I haven't checked the service records, but this is the filter that came with the car 12 months / 5K miles ago. The car lived in Albequerque before. I have spent my time as owner extracting Albequerque dirt out of every inch of this car.

I have noticed improved throttle response and idle. Also, low RPM sounds better with the resonator plugged. Before it sounded like a choked tractor pulling away. Now it sounds much better and the exhaust pops seem to have a deeper tone. I think sport cats would be a nice addition to the Fabspeed exhaust to finish out the NA sound. (But I am still hoping for a TPC CT-520 kit!)

Got 11K on mine and decided to take it all apart (with the help and reminder) by your post... Filters looked good. Throttle Body was black, so i opened the butterfly and sprayed some TB/carb cleaner on a rag and cleaned it up as far in as I could. It did seem to run better but I m sure it was just in my mind.. I did find there was a screw missing from one of the filter hold down points... Had to put a temp screw in there until I find the correct one again. Auto and hardware didn t have a screw to match.
