4S Dyno Questions

I'm getting ready to have a VF Supercharger added to my car and want to pull a dyno before and after to see if the results are in line with the 155 HP increase that is quoted. I am in Denver so, I think looking at the increase is most important since I lose HP due to altitude.

I called a well established local Dyno shop (MAC) and they said there are no Direct Connect Dyno machines in Colorado and that they use an Asynchronous Dyno, which allows the wheels to spin at their own speed and then uni-formally brake the tires at the end. He said that they will only do two pulls because the viscous coupling gets hot in the process. He also said they have never had a problem dyno'ing an AWD Porsche.

1) Anyone who has dyno'ed a 4S, have you used an Asynchronous Dyno machine?

2) Any problems likely from dynoing the car on one of these Asynchronous machines?

Thanks!!

Don

I'd like to share what I found out with other members. To run a dyno on a 997 4 model, you need a linked roller dyno. Mustang makes the linked roller dyno machines. I will have to look and see if one is available in Denver.

Seeing how the AWD system uses the rears as a primary and only adds more front if the rears looses traction, it seems like this dyno should work.

you have to use a dyno that has the front and rear wheels/rollers mechanically connected. simulated doesnt work. you will just get the cars traction control shutting it down. You need a dyno like Mustang with front and rear chain conneted.

Is your machine a PDK? If so, why not use the 2 wheel drive trick built into the PDK? I'm new to the forum, so I'm not so sure how commonly the trick is known. But pull the parking brake up just one notch. The instrument cluster will say the parking brake is on, but the first click does not engage the brake, but it does turn off the AWD and turns a Carrera 4S into a Carrera S. I'm sure many people can verify this on the forum, or you can do a Google search to confirm it. I'd love to know what your 4s does stock. I have a 2010, what year is yours?

Nice perk ^^ but idk if it would be safe to do that on a dyno if in some odd case the awd engages it could get hairy. Idk theres plenty of shops with awd dynos.

After I replied I saw that the 4S in question appears to be a 2007. That would, of course, be a Tiptronic if its an automatic. So my "idea" would be of no help.

Ran into this problem this weekend. Went to dyno on a Dynojet that was set up for AWD but advised not to run on their system as I needed to run on a system that was linked. Guess I will have to wait until I get to Texas this summer.
