Another X51 intake installation

After being inspired by Joel's X51 intake system thread (thank you sir), I decided to do the same thing.
I purchased the intake from Sunset Imports, and mated it with an X51 throttle body and plenum from Maxspeed. Great experience buying from both vendors, thanks to Phil and Nello.

Finally got around to installing over the long weekend. Installation was a breeze. So nice to work with parts that fit well and don't need "tweaking". Even cutting the deck was easy using a dremel, thanks for the tip Joel.

Took the car for a quick spin this morning and love the new intake sound. Can't say the car felt much different, other than the sound, which is just fine as that was my main reason for the change.
Strange thing though. Couldn't get the PASM out of Sport mode after disconnecting the battery! Got back home and was planning to disconect and go through a restart again. But before doing that I thought I'd try it one more time. Surprise surprise, no problems this time! Have restarted the car and taken it around the block 3 or 4 times now, all good.

Here's the mandatory pic, funny, it looks just like Joel's

Beautiful install Dave. Looks like mine
How did you deal with the vacuum line hose? Plugged or unplugged? I'm still not sure what I need to do with mine. I've heard both sides.
The new sound it makes is very intoxicating isn't it?

I love the way that air box looks, nice job on the install.

I plan on doing this mod sometime in the future using the max speed kit. My question is did you have to change the oil filler neck? I thought the the X51 is longer? Does anyone have info on this?

Thanks
Ken

Yeah, I wasn't really sure on this either. I plugged it. Everything seems to work fine and PSE opens and closely as before.

Thanks Ken. I still have the original oil filler neck right now. Will install the X51 in the future. I believe you have to remove the alternator to install it, and I'm not sure I'm up to that myself. I have a cable tie holding the current one in position. It looks like the new one is shorter?

It looks great.
Not sure I could spend that much money for no benefit other than sound.

Based upon the parts listed above I'm guessing about $4300 plus shipping.
The airbox is $3395 from Suncoast and the throttle body and plenum are $900.

Yeah, the parts aren't cheap. Not quite as high as you show above, but expensive nonetheless. You can get them cheaper by shopping around.

I guess if we look at costs practically, we wouldn't be driving these cars at all. It all comes down to what you enjoy doing.

Dave, don't have to remove the alternator, just loosen it for more wiggle room. Not impossible, only a slight PIA.

Thanks, good to know. I'll take a closer look to see if its something I want to take on myself.
Dave.

Exactly. If you want sound, do the Gundo for $200 - and possibly feel more grunt. To me, intake noise is just noise.
