997 backup camera

Hello,

I am posting on behalf of my uncle who has a 2011 997 carrera.

He is interested in installing a backup camera and a camera in the front if possible. I have done some searching on here and on google, and I have read that he needs to upgrade his PCM to a Kenwood model. Unfortunately, I have not been able to figure out what camera to get.

My questions are the following:
1) What model Kendwood should he buy?
2) What model backup camera should he buy?
3) Is it possible to also purchase a front camera as well?

Price is not a factor. Just looking to get the right stuff. Thanks in advance.

I got one of this hooked up to my JVC Navi, works great and it is low profile, my JVC unit will support a front camera as well but I think you will need a camera that can flip the image (not sure but that's what my installer told me).

I have a kenwood ddx319 that replaced a quirky PCM 2.1 that could accommodate a license plate backup camera. I got it so I could see while backing up in my gt3 at the track with the rear wing and wearing helmet with HANS device(hard to turn your head)for backing up into paddock.
Will also play DVD when parking brake engaged. (So you can't watch while car in motion). Has CD, pandora and USB input. Nav and Bluetooth would be on a pricier kenwood model.
Not sure if it could handle front camera. Maybe parking sensors would be an option.

Not true, the OEM PCM will work. Went to a local high end radar detector installation guy here in Scottsdale, he installs the cameras and a module that will utilize the existing PCM. I can send you his contact info if that helps.

Depends on the PCM, according to my installer Benchmark Motoring in Bellevue who also does high end autos. Worth finding out for sure. Was told 997 different from cayenne. At least 09 models when I researched it for my C4S.

Could you send me his info please? Hopefully he'll help me, although I'm in South Florida.

OEM is better for a lot of reasons. That is where I would concentrate my efforts for your uncle if I were you..

Seems like a waste to take out 2011 PCM.

Anyways, I asked my local stereo shop the same question for my friend's 2004 Cayenne S. Any of the two higher end Kenwood or Alpine will work for both front and rear cameras. Just need to activate the front camera if you want see it (rear is automatic when you shift into reverse).

Let us know what you did.

Can you post the parts make and model to wire up the camera and interface it to the PCM?

I'll be pulling off bumper covers to route rear radar/laser sensors shortly and may tack on a camera feed while I'm pulling everything apart.

i think its better to replace the head unit completely by another one could show rear & even front camera
other option is plates camera + mirror screen
but in all ways i really like to see how its function PCM with camera
