997.1 s vs 997.2 base

First time post on the 997 forum but I recently purchased a 2012 cayenne v6 and i love it. I now have the p-car bug and I am looking for a 911 that will be driven 5k miles a year. Should I go with a late model 997.1 s (2007ish) or 2009 997.2 Base Carrera. I like the interior of the 2009. What do you think?

What is the reason for getting the car? Other than PCM, the interiors are nearly identical. DFI motors will get better mileage.

If it's a weekend fun car, my vote is for 997.1.

I haven't ever the 997.1 base but I had a 2009 997.2 base carrera.

Very good car, fast for its "only" 345 bhp and easy to drive even on a daily basis.

I concur, on the highway you can easily see 27+ mpg.

Also the DFI engines do not have the IMS failure issues of the early 1st generation cars.

I would stick with a 997.2, but that is a tough decision.

I ended up with a 2010 997.2 S. Budget started at $60K and after I did research and test drives increased to $80K.

Good Luck

I have a 997.1 and am a die hard stick fan but with that said I would go with the 997.2. The pdk is so good. Just don't skimp on a car and get one with less options or in a color that you don't love or you'll kick yourself later.

Keep your options open, try them both until you have a better feel for the differences. A lot will depend on the options and how the car was cared for. Don't settle, take your time.

Someone more knowledgable would have to chime, but I would guess the s has other standard upgrades than just horsepower that you might want to consider.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am actually looking at manuals in both so the pdk wouldnt matter. Keep it coming.

Did the 997.2 base get the 997.1 S brakes? Power wise, there's no real difference between these 2 cars. I'd rather have the .2 all other things being somewhat equal.

I went through this a year ago when I got my first 911. I got the .2 base and don't regret it. At the time an 07S and 09 base were about the same price with similar options. the 09S was more than I wanted to spend at the time.

Plus. the .2 has a much nicer PCM system, updated interior, bigger brakes (compared to base .1), the new DFI engines, DRLs, a few other niceties. Plus newer, and you probably get a little factory warranty depending on when it was bought.
