I'm thinking about changing the tires on my 911S, the current conditions on it's tires were about 5-6(on the 10 scale), I'm just wondering how long would it last me if I drive about 500-1k a month? I've did some research online that yokohama were about 300 to michelin's 600+. Could the dealership charge more for the only few inventory they have? I didn't know that tires on 911s can be that much than the cayman I used to have.....

 

I recently changed all four tires on my C4S. I went with Michelin Pilot Super Sport, and I am very happy with the result. Much nicer than the old PS/2 I had. Grand total was $1478 from Tire rack + installation.

I know that it is a big chunk of money, but I like and trust Michelin, very much. Besides, next time around I will only have to replace the rear tires as the front will last a long time. I did close to 20K miles with the former PS/2 and will probably do more with the PSS. I do not track my car, and do mostly highway and city driving. Nothing aggressive. There are far too many cops in Raleigh/Cary, NC.

Last month I need to replace fronts and went with the Michelin PS2s to match my PS2 rears that only have a couple thousand miles on them. I was surprised that the new Pilot Super Sports (replacing the PS2) were less expensive. Still expensive compared to most options, but relatively reasonable. I don't think you can beat the ride and handling quality with the Michelins...they're just top-notch.

If you're looking to save money, I have had fantastic experience with Hankook Ventus V12s on a Jaguar XK and Mercedes SL. They're a very good value, but based on some posts I've read where people have tried them on 997s, they might be better suited for the luxury coupe/convertible class than a Porsche.

 

And to answer part of your original question, I got 10K out of the rears and 13K out of the fronts. I don't track the car and the roads I drive on are pretty easy on tires.

 

it will depend on your driving style.

wrt where you buy, I probably would not go to the dealer, since they will likely charge more. Find the tire you want, then do some research online for pricing. You should be able to go to any local tire place and they should be able to match the price.

 

12K, original tires,,, rear getting to the end in a few thousand(maybe), fronts still good.

 

I got 13-14k miles out of roughly 1 year of daily driving + monthly autocrosses. Still had a bit left when I got them replaced.

 

I'm just not sure if I should trust local tire stores than the dealer on changing the tires, since porsche are not average car like my other toyota to be changed at any place....

 

That was really good deal, I just checked tirerack, a set would cost me almost 1800 not including installation on the PS/2s.

I have had no issues with my local America's Tire (AKA Discount tire). Yes, they do tires on all sorts of cars. My partner's M3. My 545. My P-car with custom rims (that have needed tires on and off multiple times due to wheel problems) they have always taken care in their installation and removals.

One thing I did hear from one of my partners whose brother is in the wheel business - DON'T go to Costco. They don't know what they're doing.

I went economical....

Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110.... under $200 a tire

And I'm very happy with them, quiet and I'm actually getter better gas mileage with them. I believe the rolling resistance was lower than the old worn PS2s I had.

 

I had them on my 08 Corvette and loved them, but I have read so many negative comments from 911 owners I almost ruled them out. Do you really like them?

 

That's where I've always gone and have never had an issue. The last guy that helped me there was very familiar with the Michelin product and recommended the new Pilot Super Sport over the PS2s, and they're cheaper.

 

another plus for Discount Tire, I take all my cars there and trust the guys who work there, and another plus for the PS3's by Michelin, good luck with it!
