Most likely IMS.... sorry. RMS doesn't dump all the oil like that.
Your worst mistake was to start the car after putting the new oil...
Hope you can salvage that engine.
2005 with 43K miles is too little mileage for a 7-8 year old car... that's like 6,000 miles per year.
Good luck my friend.

I have seen these cars personally drop oil like that 4 times and each time it was the IMS issue. I hope you are warranty covered or that I am wrong.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you that it isn't too bad

You have an 8 year old car with 45K miles on it and an oil leak is ruining your experience of the car?

I think he means the fear of it being something major is souring the experience which I can relate to. I would also be puckering up if this happened to me.

The underneath of that engine is a mess (even without the leak). It does not get any care or attention. You should clean it up from time to time (or ask someone to do it for you) as it will help the cooling of the engine and transmission. I have never seen so much mud accumulated underneath.

It looks more like road salt than mud. This time of year in New England, the only part of a car not coated with salt like that is the roof! Maybe they use a lot of salt in Slovenia too.

Exactly. It's the road salt. And this is actually just 2 weeks worth of salt! Trust me I take care of my car but I'm not buying it to have it in my garage.

@ratspritz: Like I said. I drive my porsches daily. I make about 4k miles per month. I bought this car 4 months ago. I sold my 996TT with 130k miles on the counter.

So yeah. It does ruin experience for me to have a car I love and drive every day bleed oil all over the place. I've driven this car from Slovenia to Spain and back (3k miles). It'll take me a while before I'll be able to do that again without thinking if I'll get to my destination behind of the wheel or with my car on the truck.

Unfortunately the engine is probably toast. Your comment regarding starting the engine again after the original loss of oil was correct, it should not have been restarted. Sourcing a solid used engine may be your best bet but the problem with that approach will be determining the condition of the donor engine. Porsche indi will be able to present you with options once they have has a chance to inspect the engine. Unfortunately, none of them will be cheap.

Dont understand the attached photo. Did you pull the IMS bearing and replace it with a new one? Did you cut open the oil filter and drop the sump to check for metal?

This experience ruing this car for me.

from the pic, your car has the "small" IMS bearing not the revised larger IMS bearing found in MY2006 and up (note: some MY2005's also had the larger IMS bearing). Based on what I can see the "inner" race is still attacted to the flange with some wear and I am assuming the "outer" race is probably still attached to the IMS shaft, and if you are able to find all the ***** (8), probably they are in the IMS shaft, THEN there is a good chance of saving the engine.

Another good sign is when you started the engine and it ran perfectly at idle tells me your timing chains did not skip a gear, therefore your valves were not damaged against the piston heads.

Good luck and keep us posted of the outcome

Sorry guys. Like I said I promise to keep you posted. IT IS IMS. The engine should be opened in a couple of hours but I'm already on the hunt for the new engine. I would be very surprised if engine would be ok.

So we know what the problem is. We're just waiting to see what's the aftermath.

I did however find all ***** and both pieces of IMS bearing!

Thanks guys for your support and best wishes. Unfortunately there is no aftermarket warranty that would cover this car for failures in Slo and the car is out of factory warranty... so.... Paying for this by myself... Better get back to work
