vf supercharger vs. tpcracing turbo
Its all good man I love the food for thought. Thats the reason im on here. Is to get info and thoughts from the people who have been there and done it. I do my own oirl changes. There is a new porsche dealership that openened in saskatoon so thats handy. If I were to get a turbo that would be the next question.... where to go to install it. Id most likely take it to calgary or where ever was suggested from people in my area. Most likely I will not be going the turbo route but will be looking at smaller mods to do. Was thinking about going with the fabspeed cold air intake from vividracing (http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13605308677383) and also softronic ecu flash (http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/A...8-p-25305.html) what do you think of that?
Agreed.
TPC is $10K and labor will run ~ $3K. It's all bolt-on and no internal engine work needed, only a tune which comes with the price. Also, VF-E's supercharger is roughly the same but less power and delivery of power is quite different.
I really want the TPC kit but with 93K on the clock it's too risky for mine - or so I'm advised, although TPC informed me they've had some with highly mileage install. If I ever get to the point of doing it I'd rather punch the motor out to a 4.0 and boost it. Here's a guy who did just that for some serious power.
9.5:1 compression, 8 PSI: 500 WHP, 400 WTQ
Rebuild in the $20K range, TPC kit $10K
Factor value of car and I'll use a Carrera (non-S) compared to a 997TT
According to Kelly Blue Book both cars relatively low mileage 38k
'07 Carrera: $43,662
07 997TT: $72,354
Cost Difference: $28,692
So, ~$30K = new motor, Turbo, 500 WHP translates to 610 HP
So, if you buy a 997TT = 38K miles and stock = 480 HP which translates to 393.6 WHP
Not bad.

To the OP: you never got an answer to your original question other than 'don't do it'.
I respectfully disagree. Getting out of your C4s and into a TT of the same year will cost quite a bit more than the incremental cost of forced air induction.
I looked at the available options for my '06 C2S and went with an aftermarket turbo kit ( I went with Vivid but TCP is close enough to being the same thing).
I could not be happier. It transformed the car completely and gave me the rush I remembered from my days in a modded 996TT. And all for approx. $13K out the door.
And zero issues since. This car is my daily driver (45 miles a day every day).
So you mileage may vary, but I felt the need to offer you a different view from the ' if Porsche intended the C4S to have 500hp, they would have built it that way' worldview. If you go for the more basic mods ( intake, headers, exhaust), you'll spend 65% of the cost of the turbo kit for 10% of the performance gain.
To each his own.

The fabspeed does away with the airbox so it might get slightly better airflow, but doing away with the box also means it's more prone to heatsoak when sitting still for any time (e.g. you're stuck in traffic then the engine will bog down from all the hot air getting into the intake). Oil filters also have some maintenance involved, and you have to be very careful not to over oil.
Softronic ECU I hear is well worth it, but I can't speak from first hand experience. My engine is stock.
Much like the S2000, our cars are expensive to get much in the way of power gains without going FI. It seems there are a lot of snake oil products for our cars too, so be cautious and do your research. Lots of lofty claims of power gains with dubious dyno sheets...
IMHO if you're looking for some power without making "local shop won't look at it" sized changes, the best way to go is ECU flash plus full exhaust from AWE tuning, but it's not cheap and your car will be louder. These cars are pretty maxed out from the factory, there isn't much in the way of power gains without making sacrifices like noise, drivability, low end vs high end power, etc.

Thanks for all the advice secretasianman......
could you possibly post a link where I could find the full exhaust from awe if you know it. Im sure ill find it googling it im just not that great on computers. So your opinion on the fabspeed cold air intake from vividracing isnt worth it?

Here's the exhaust: http://www.awe-tuning.com/awe-997sexhaust
The full system (headers, mufflers, etc. etc.) will run you quite a pretty penny and get you around 40hp up top. AWE tuning is a reputable company and I would actually believe their dynos. Any full exhaust is going to be a fair bit louder, so be warned.
When a car is pretty maxed out from the factory (like ours) there just isn't a lot of room for easy upgrades.
Me, personally, I'm probably going to leave my drivetrain pretty stock.

Just enjoy this beautiful c4s
Porsche have already given 911s different taste, just like c2 c2s c4 c4s t4 t4s tt and gts, they are all different out there but they have the same soul from Porsche.
Love the way it is and rock it, or you can spend some $$ on the visual, such as led drl, led tail, body kit and also exhaust job, it will give your beast a fresh looking.
Good luck on this one and hope you enjoy it for a long time.

The forum is full of folks doing minor mods and then reporting the inpact on the "butt dyno" the results of which leave me skeptical. If you want 150 extra horses then go FI via TPC or Vivid. Or buy a used 997 turbo. Both are great choices!
No gain, not even 1hp more but he said it did sounded good though
. If you are going to mod and know your budget. FI is a no brianer. The TPC turbo transforms the car, when you get into a regular 911, it feels like there is an extra 1000 lbs on it. If you got 13K to spend on mods, it's has to ba a SC or TC.
I would have to concur with MarathonBob and Ynot, as well as other FI converts. Like others have said, the 911 N/A version is pretty maxed out in terms of N/A output. For the amount of power to make a significant difference that you can definitely feel, you just cannot get it with simple add-ons like exhaust/intake/and ECU reflashed. You will need FI or a 4.0 conversion
. With that said, I have a VF S/C that has definitely transformed my C2S straight line acceleration and speed. With the pricing of the S/C now, you can get this power for ~ $10,000, including installation, in my experience. You can't go wrong with either VF or TPC. Adding a lightened flywheel made the thrill of responsive acceleration even more noticeable

Have to jump in here because I have been seriously looking at the TCP optionfor about a year. Emailed TCP today to find out the closest shop they recommend is in Canton, CT (4 hours away). My main concern is that everyone talks about the pull and how much faster it feels but for $13k I just don’t want to get pulled
I do wonder why that in a group of racing/speed nuts that measure the temperature of the tire to wind speed nobody, I mean nobody, has actual numbers of the 0-60, 1/4 or top speed. Not even a YouTube run up against a rabbit diesel?
This is why I still wait, until then here comes the Alpine and LEDs (Thanks Shane from DRC Media LLC)
I only have 14k miles so there is still time.
Just my .02

Just take that leap of faith

Hondoo,
My TPC enabled '06 C4 (non S) is still sleeping through the long winter in my NH garage. When spring comes, shoot me an email and we'll go for a ride. It will take an hour for the grin to go away after you've had a drive!

Lots of good stuff! Ive started saving for the tpc turbo
My plan is July! Now to find somewhere to install it. Does anyone know anywhere in Saskatchewan(probably not) or Alberta?
