Rim Rash problem..........
Rim Rash problem..........
Took a corner too tight last night and scraped my rim. Have any of you guys had this issue before and what did you do about it? I noticed this morning there were some DIY solutions but wanted to know if anybody here had any experiences they could speak on.
Alloy Wheels Repair Specialist, if there's a franchise in your area. When I nicked/curbed my Kinesis rim, I went to this franchise and the work was flawless. You could also DIY by sanding down the damaged area and try to blend the area with color matched paint from a hobby store. That's what I did to my Supperlegera rim on my prior Audi S4. It was decent but not as perfect as those rim repair specialty shop

Do yourself a favor and have it repaired by a professional in a shop. I would be leery of someone who drives up and claims to be able to fix it on the spot. A professional repair should be about $125.

just because someone (or a company) drives up, doest mean they are not professional. I have used a "mobile unit" in the past. Very quick, professional, excellent job, less then $100.
Good point. Coincidentally, my Porsche dealership also uses the Franchise.
Agreed
Scrapped your rim or scrapped and bent your rim ? If you hit a curb you bent the rim it will need to be removed from the car and the tire removed from the rim to properly fix the damage. The bent rim needs to be heated to properly reshape it. While they can handle a cosmetic repair I don't think the mobil guy can handle a bent rim . I'd take it to a shop that specializes in wheel repair. These wheels very easily bent but luckly very easily repaired.
Of course you are right if they pull up in their company truck and have all of the proper equipment. I have seen people doing this type of work at car lots working out of their trunk and the end result looks just like they worked out of their trunk.
Do you have a photo of your car and wheels. They look chrome in your avatar photo. I'm looking for something similar for my red 911. Any idea of the weights?

I had my carrera classic rim repaired by the mobile guys and I couldn't even tell where the rash was afterwards. Perfect color match. And I'm very critical. The best thing is they came to me at work.
Check my album. They are approx 19 lbs front and 22-23 lbs rear.
