I'm not sure what the downside of using WD-40 is but I sprayed between the tubes and the noise hasn't returned since. It has been about 3 months.

I agree on many points, however it's embarrassing every time someone asks if I can extend the spoiler while the car is sitting still, and when I press the button the car makes such noise. I think I'm going to go with lube route

WD-40 is NOT a long lasting lube and can cause things to gum up.

How do you extend the spoiler while the car is not moving?

I used a little bit of Teflon grease on mine and I have not heard the spoiler form more than 2 years.

To raise the spoiler, there is a button on the central console. Push it quickly once ot raise. Push it longer to retract.

I'm trying to find out what the dealer uses to lubricate them, and I'll follow suit

Yes to the second to last poster, there is a button on your dash with a spoiler painted on it. Press it and watch it rise.

i actually agree. If it made bad noises that would bother the crap out of me. I was trying to add levity.
