Track Video Camera Suggestions?
Track Video Camera Suggestions?
Hi guys, I'm in the market for a video camera to use at the track. I've found some older threads on the topic but was wondering what the latest thinking is before I pull the trigger on one.
In my broader web searches, I see a lot of complaints about the new GoPro Hero3's (especially the Black Editions)... but maybe they have been addressed?
Any feedback on Contour or Replay?
Sound quality matters a lot to me as well as having the wide angle lense and ease of function. I'm not super tech saavy.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thx. I like Harry's. I think the iPhone video is good but not great. Plus I'd like to mount the camera on the bumper if possible...

better than Hero2
Hero3 beat it tho.
But for the price.... you decide.

GoPro is kind of the defacto, but I'm not all that hot on them. We've got a bunch at work that I play around with, they're Hero2 and the image quality is so-so, way too much lens distortion for me.
I've used the Contour for snowboarding and I really liked it. It's a solid product. Great image quality and I really like the iphone interface too. It's also dead simple to turn on and record.
The one that I haven't tried but looks promising is the Liquid Image: http://www.liquidimageco.com/ and at $200 the price is nice! They claim better image quality (dynamic range and color) than the Hero3, but they could just be cherry picking the scenes.
One other thing, I've used the GoPro on my car and I didn't like the sound at all. Not sure if the others will have the same problem, but I felt like I really wanted an external mic to put near the engine. The camera picked up way too much wind and road noise so you could barely hear the engine. I've heard people tape up the on camera mic, but I haven't tried that yet. So maybe it sounds better that way.
