Black paint any better?
+1 Bassalt Black. I've owned 4-5 black cars in my lifetime. I also keep saying never a black car again but somehow I'm not able to resist it when buying a new car. Bassalt black hides the dust a little better but dust cannot hide from an OCD guy like me. The swirl marks drives me crazy. I never wipe it down dry. I always take my time to spray it down with a garden hose to get rid of the dust. With nice quote of wax, it takes a few minutes to dry it and get it looking sharp again.
One word: White...
Black is the always the most beautiful color...right after you wash it. As soon as you drive it, it turns ugly. With Basalt Black, they've even eliminated the need to drive the car before it looks dirty...it already looks dirty while it's still dripping in the driveway. Obviously, JMO...

Look at how many people with black cars responding! Mine's black too and I didn't even want it. Once I checked the listings on cars.com and 40% of the available turbo coupes were black! No wonder there are so many and the right used car might just be a black one.

This thread should be called "If you want to buy a black car...read this thread first"
I love the way black looks. Its just so sharp and crisp. But after reading this I think I would be horrified. I try to wash my car once a week in the warmer months but when it gets cold out it can go 2+ months before it sees some soap. And it sounds like that would devastate a black car.

the lighter the color the easier your life will be
So long as you have "garage fairies" your black car will be fine. At least that is what my wife seems to think because she just parks her car and it is cleaned and waxed somehow....
Personally, I had one black car and will never ever have another unless someone just gives it to me. I like detailing cars but black is just way to much work.

Sorry for the off topic reply (only 5 posts, can't PM yet...).
Eldertec,
What kind of wheels did you buy, and how much do they show brake dust? I'm thinking about doing something similar to replace my factory turbo wheels.
Thanks,
TD

I think as the owner you are always more critical of the way the car looks than anyone else. So when I look at my car I see any minor imperfection in paint work etc. However when I see another black Porsche I just think it looks great.
If my 911 was a daily driver then black would not be the color to go for. But for the way I use it the black just looks so good when its clean. Atlas grey is my personal favorite color but for me on the Boxster S my mum had the color was far harder to keep clean than even my black 911 especially when seen in clear sunlight. Having said that though when I look at the picture I took of the car a week later I couldn't see any of the swirls or smear or smudges it just looked fine....

Another Basalt Black owner chiming in. This is my 4th black car, like many others, I keep saying it will be my last, but we'll see.
My 997 is not my daily driver, so it's almost always clean. As soon as it becomes dirty, it gets a wash. Basalt is easier than normal black to keep clean and doesn't show swirls or streaks as much either, but it's not as striking as a pure gloss black when clean.
Any black car or very dark colored car will be a labor of love (or hate). Can't get around it. Porsche holds no magic cure in that regard.
