mattyf your graphs show exactly what I was stating about shifting as close to redline as you can get. When the rpms drop after the shift, thats the power you have available to continue acceleration.
just as qikqbn stated in his reply...good quarter mile runs require really good 0-60 times...unless of course you have more than enough horsepower to make up for a bad launch.
As for those who would or would not consider a 911 a drag race car....it seems that Porsche thinks otherwise; why else would they have put the launch control feature into the PDK.

jhbrennan Im going to have to disagree with you. Look at the Turbo S. That car has 553 lb/ft of torque available in overboost mode and you know there are people who own a Turbo S who are taking advantage of the power, the PDK, and launch control.
Porsche could have more easily and for less money just upgraded the internals to handle the abuse (like the have for the Turbo S) for all 911's then to spend the time and money to develop the software to get the 911 to launch like it can with the PDK and the launch control feature.

with a stock 997 gearing, target rpm at 7000 and 26" tires:
1st gear will take you to 40mph with a shift point of 4123rpm once you shift into 2nd gear. 2nd gear will take you to 68mph with all else equal.
with a 6800 1st gear shift you be at 39mph and will drop your rpm down to 4020 when you get into 2nd with a top speed of 66mph.
what your doing is:
taking 1st gear to 5k rpm @ 29mph with a shift point of 2989rpms once you shift to 2nd.
2nd gear to 6k rpm @ 58 mph with a shift point dropping you down to 3504rpm in 3rd gear
and 3rd gear for just 2-3mph to hit 60mph
just take 1st to 7000mph shift and you should hit 60mph at about 6200rpm in 2nd gear

2 shifts vs 1 shift will shave off time plus you are utilizing all of the "gear's" speed potential.

Thanks so much. I just wanted to know how to get the most out of the car if I needed it. I'm typically a very causual driver and keep the car around 4k rpms at all times. I just wanted to know how to get it on if i needed it; i.e., showing off to buddies and/or smoking fools at stoplights.

But in your case 0-60, straight, line in your stock 997
If we both had the same stock car and "lunch" was riding on the bet who get get to 60mph fastest you can bet that I will not be shifting at 5k from 1st to 2nd and not shifting from 2nd to 3rd at 6k when 2nd gear takes me to 68mph

bty - what you call "performance shifting" is somthing diffrent, also called (powershifting or noliftshift) LOL, which is never taking your foot of the gas when you shift.
PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS IN YOUR 997!!! I don't want tomorrows thread for you being titled "Best Place for Transmission Rebuild??"
