Replacing PCM Opinion
Replacing PCM Opinion
What is your opinion of how replacing the PCM with a new high speed touch screen unit will do to the value of the car, appeal to a potential buyer and trade in value?
First question from me would be: Is it even possible? If so, I would do it in a heartbeat.
IMO, the value would be the same. Most upgrades do not increase the value of the car.
I'll let someone chime in to find out if it is even possible to swap the PCM.

I just replaced mine
I installed an Alpine INE W927hd (I think). Del Rey customs posted a video of it on this forum a week or two ago.
It is a plugin replacement for the PCM. I saved my PCM and will keep it in case I ever decide to sell my 911 (not likely). The new Alpine unit is miles better than my crummy old PCM. I especially love that I can play Pandora through the bluetooth connection on my phone. It works really well, sounds pretty good and displays song/artist info on the screen along with album art.
I'm very happy with the unit, (thought it was pretty expensive IMO).

So the PCM from a 997.2 can be moved to a .1 and everything will still work (especially the Chrono)? Were there threads here or someplace wherein someone did it?
EDIT:
Okay--- it looks like you are referring to upgrading to non-Bose upgrade. I thought you were referring to "factory touch-screen upgade".

It depends when and to whom you sell the car.
The more of an enthusiast, the older, the less likely they are to go for a deviation from stock.
They younger, the more of a racer, the more they will appreciate the upgrade.

If I were buying your car (when you get ready to sell), I would not like this mod. However, if you keep the original, then you could always change it back before you sell.
When I purchased my car, the previous owner had wheel on the car that I did not like so he installed the original back on the car and everyone was happy!
If this is something you want, I say do it and be HAPPY!
