opening the drain plug is for sure an option. but it might cause leaks and you know how those things are...if you open too much and drop the plug oil just gushes out. maybe our brothers know of a better way to drain some oil thats not too risky and of course not too messy

slammp is infamous around these parts
Drain plug is only option unless you have a pump that can pull it from the tube. I've done it before with the plug just dont unthread it 100 percent and have an oil pan under it. Not a big deal at all easy peasy

You say you're looking for the easiest and cleanest method... That would definitely be an oil extractor pump.
Here's one for $10.
Now you've got a method that is easy, clean and cheap.

Remove oil filter will usually do it for you. How did it get overfilled?

Fumoto drain valve is your best bet, it does work but I did not like the way it protrudes down taking away from the bottom clearance. It works good for car where drain bolt go In sideways oppose to straight down.

Try the pump though my friend stopped using it after a while. Don't bother with the spicket valve as it protrudes---you'll never know what could happen with our cars being low.

For reference, the 997 oil change is so much cleaner and easier than the oil cooled engines. My 83sc has 2 tanks and the gushing pressure is so strong that it often splashes even though I have a big wide oil pan.

I know from experience that removing the oil filter on a 997.1 is a good way to remove some oil when slightly overfilled, but I I'm skeptical that it will work on a 997.2 with the oil filter on top of the engine.

But I believe the filter on the 997.2 is located on the top of the engine. It might not work the same way.

Ha... That's what happens when trying to get a little forum time in while getting the kids breakfast. Somehow I just missed the back half of your post.

Talking about funny, I once forgot to put a washer onto the plug. I was able to somehow managed to unscrew the plug, put the washer, tighten the plug, and with very little loss of oil.
