Shopping cross country, tips?
Shopping cross country, tips?
Hey guys,
Sorry about the multiple threads recently. One was mainly for my dad who is in search of an M3.
My situation is this, we sold my wife's Lexus IS350 tonight and I will be purchasing a used 2013 GS350 F Sport. Odds are it will be quite a ways from our home here in WI being very few are around locally.
What are some good tips, tricks, techniques when negotiating from a far? I will be sending out emails to each dealers Internet sales people at the dealers with a vehicle that I'm looking at. How much negotiating on price can I expect off auto traders listed price?
Any recommendations would be helpful!

Worst case scenario for me, I fly out to inspect the car and decide its not in the condition I was told I can blackout.
I would never sign until I see it first hand!
1. Have the dealer that owns the car drive to a different dealer to get a PPI, talked the the mechanic that did the PPI and asked for his opinion. Asked him about the paint, scratches, rock chips, etc
2. Have him email or fax your the PPI results.
3. Put down deposit and have the dealer put in writing that you can back out of the purchase if you don't like it when you see it, also put in writing that deposit is refundable if you back out.
4. Book ticket and fly out to have a look. I brought my brother for a second opinion.
5. Test drive and have a checklist of everything you want to check, you will forget what you want to check with all the excitement.
6. Drive or have it shipped back home.
I brought mine on ebay and it was in San Diego.

I just bought a C4S from a private seller. All the above post are good recommendations. The car i bought is in Las Angeles, CA and i'm in Tennessee. Expecting delivery this week.
I was fortunate to have a close family friend there to look at it for me. It's always a risk, but there are some positive outcomes out there as well. Good luck. Hopefully mine turns out well.

Do a facetime or other type of video chat as they walk around the car. Fly out there once you think you are ready to pull the trigger. Then either drive the car back home, ship it back, or get on the plane and start looking for another car. Plane tickets a cheap compared to the nightmare that could await you.
I bought my 07TT in Ohio and I live in Houston.
