New Door Sills
New Door Sills
couple of months ago, i started a thread cause my door sills were pretty scratched up (pic 1 & 2)
Considering all the options, i decided to replace them with carbon fiber ones. I ended up getting the outer ones (OEM) from Suncoast at a great sale price.. and got the inner sills from DB Carbon during their group buy.
I also ended up purchasing the ignition surround and light-switch surround in carbon fiber since the group buy hit 30% off
Overall, DB Carbon (and OEM) looked good and fit without any issues. Only issue was taking out the old inner sill from the driver's side. The instruction from MACarbon (they have great instruction btw) was to use 4mm hex key to remove the inner screw.. but to no avail. I ended up breaking it because it was too dark and tight to see what was really needed.
After removal, i can see that i actually needed a 5mm wrench instead. I was basically spinning the 4mm allen wrench in the 5mm socket.
i am planning to re-cover the center console in full leather, along with the door pull covers. I will also be replacing other parts that are starting to wear out with carbon fiber parts, hoping for better wear over the years.

That's a huge improvement over your old scratched up sills. Very nice!
The ignition and light switch surround look good too! But now you need to do the dash strip/cup holder cover in carbon to match.

the inner sills are pretty easy since its mostly held in place with clips. The driver's side does have one hex nut u need to remove (5mm for me). I got the instruction from MA Carbon site.
the outer door is easy to remove if u have a heat gun, no patience, and don't care about salvaging the old one.
just put the heat gun on high and pull it off gently, little by little. My heat gun actually heated the old sill so much, it starting curling like bacon.. but i had it off in less than 5 mins for both sides.
Taking off the old glue took longer. I let googone do lot of the work by letting it sit and penetrate the glue. Then i used elbow grease to take off the rest with microfiber towel with some more goo-gone. After, i cleaned it with water and some window cleaner (no ammonia).
u can prob salvage the outer sills if u have lotta patience (and time) by using dental floss and heat gun on low heat.
be sure to check the vendor group buy section regularly for special deals

every time i get in & out of the car, i really enjoy the carbon sills !
Carbon is addicting.. but i do like the silver trims on my cocoa leather.. so i will only be replacing only few more parts in carbon. The rest of the plastic trims (including the center console) will be upgraded with leather by Classic9.
