Agree w/Alan.....not very 'likely' that detective work will be done on DME.

That sometimes is the course when low miles and warranty is involved....doubtful here.....but suit youself.

I had a porsche rep once "goodwill" a clutch assembly on a 993 Turbo but it was only one months after warranty expired under normal street use . A blown engine on an 05 car would be a lot to hope for .

Sad to hear this. Would you mind sharing your 05' S engine number or build date? BTW, a 2005 could be part of the class action lawsuit ( search IMS lawsuit owners win) if it had a serial number in the range of cars affected. Check out that thread- it may be worth a phone call to the law firm or PCNA.

i think factory will help, just got a new engine in my 006, had to pay for install tho. initial quote for new engine was a heartbreaking 30k, ended up costing me 8k. there is hope just talk it out with dealership and get them to talk to factory. good luck.

Why did you need a new engine? I recall a post from you about your engine making a clatter sound. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

Hey Speedster, It was the well-documented issue of a 'scored' cylinder #6. They saw it right away when they scoped it. New engine is running nice...

I wish you lick, but wouldn't tell Porsche the blown engine occurred at the track, and I wouldn't count on Porsche replacing an engine under warranty if it died under track use. The Porsche warranty clearly states that coverage does not apply to track use.

Same issue

I had the same issue happen to my 2007 997 in June with 50,013 miles on it. On acceleration at about 70-80 mph I heard a pop, then there was a cloud of white smoke and the engine shut off. I took it to the dealer and I received a similar quote.

Sadly, the only available solution for me is to buy an new engine from Porsche. I did research several alternatives but because the cost, the only option I'm comfortable with is going directly through Porsche Service.
