Low oil pressure warning after oil change

I just changed my oil.
When I started the car, it fired up nicely; the engine sounded smooth as silk.
However I got a red low oil pressure warning on my dash, which I acknowledged, and the warning went away.
There are no leaks at the engine oil filter or the drain plug.
The oil pressure is at 3.5 bar at start-up, and drops to about 3 bar after a few minutes.

Is it normal to to get this warning at the first start-up after an oil change? (Note that I did pour some new oil into the oil filter canister before I screwed it back into place).

Also, my 997.1 S requires 9 quarts, per the owner's manual. I initially had 8 quarts in there. The reading was within range even with the 8 quarts, but could this have triggered the warning? Of course, I added more oil as required to bring the reading up to the top mark.

Anyone experience this before?

I believe its normal. I think it takes a few seconds for it to cycle the oil around the engine. But i could be wrong.

I always put oil in the oil filter cup, helps avoid this. On cars with a canister oil filter I fill the oil filter up also.

thanks, guys. I suspected it was normal, but just wanted to double check.

GuzziGreg, I did fill the canister with oil, but not all the way to the top. How much oil do you recommend putting into the canister?

Yeah it sounds like you did it right. You can't put much in. If the light went out you are good to go. This does always happen to my 2012 jeep which has the filter on the top of the motor so you can not put the oil in.

Normal for the light to go on until the oil pressure builds up.

+1..I do the same or in other cars fill the oil filter with oil before I screw it on. It takes time to build up in there.
