Starter question
So I think my starter is starting to go on my car. 07 gt3. Every once in a while when turn the ignition on, all i hear is a single click from the rear of the car. Searching through the forums makes me believe that its the starter beginning to go?
Has anyone replaced the starter on 997 engines? where is it located? I have a lift to get underneath the car. Is there a DIY somewhere on this? thanks!

No need a lift. The starter is on top of the engine. Take note that you have to remove the throttle body first. GT3 may vary but you'll get the idea of the work involved.

Resurrecting this thread since I am considering replacing my starter too. The procedure looks pretty simple and Autozone and O'Reillys carry re-man Bosch starters for less than $150 + core charge. I think I may go ahead and do this to try and cure my weak hot start issue which a new cable did not fix.

Well...I don't think that heat shield made any remarkable difference. I tested it twice today after driving to and from work, which is about a 35 minute drive each way so the engine temps were all in the normal range. After I parked I would wait a few minutes and then restart it. Still sluggish trying to turn over. Oh well...I gave it my best. I guess sluggish hot starts are just the "charm" of a 997. I'll replace that starter later...like much later. I'm tired of tearing apart the top of that engine for now.
The car fires right up when it's cool. Only labors when the engine is hot. I don't suspect the battery or alternator are at fault. If I had a weak battery then it would be sluggish to start all the time.
Fair enough. It's just that my last starting problem was like yours. The 997 would start right up then would click. The problem lasted for about a week. My battery was old so a replacement fixed my issue.
