Updated (2013) PCM NAV disc now available!
The 997.1 systems are DVD based and not hard drive based. I would imagine that it should be as simple as getting the disc and shoving it in the Navigation DVD drive.
On the other hand, how does one find out if they have Software version A or Software Version B?

For the DVD versions, you get a software update DVD along with the maps. Pop the first one in, reboot. Then the second, reboot. Finally insert the map DVD. Really simple.
There is a TSB with the full instructions. Planet-9 has it for download, might need to be a member to see it. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...ates-and-maps/

Hey folks, happy to help.
-Model Level A: 04202xxx
-Model Level B: 05024xxx - Minimum requirement for this kit.
-Model Level C: 05395xxx
If you check your car and find you have the standard or "A" version software, contact us with your VIN number and we can check your upgrade options.
- 997.2 models - Has to be installed at a dealer. It comes with a certain serial code in the box, and the PIWIS tester generates the activation codes to complete the job.
- 997.1 models - On early cars with "A" software (typically early 2005 cars), a dealer may have to upgrade from A to B with a specific upgrade disc. If the car has "B" software, then this kit should be plug and play, and is usally a self install. I have a friend with a 2007, he was able to complete the upgrade himself (not sure how, but he said it was easy). To see what software version you have, press "MAIN" and "TRIP" at the same time while the radio is operating. With the rotary ****, select "PCM". Then the version will be displayed:
-Model Level A: 04202xxx
-Model Level B: 05024xxx - Minimum requirement for this kit.
-Model Level C: 05395xxx
If you check your car and find you have the standard or "A" version software, contact us with your VIN number and we can check your upgrade options.

Suncoast,
Would you mind showing some pictures of the new maps? Is it more detailed than the previous version? Do we get 3D perspective? Do we have lanes directions? Or is it just an update of the recent roads and streets?
Thanks
Yves

The operation and graphics won't be changed. This is an update of roads and destinations. And for some models (depending on year/model/software version), it will have PCM software updates to fix bugs/glitches.

Now it appears there is another update? I'm going to pull out what I got and what I updated too and post here...if there really is an update to the Nav...then maybe I will get it and hold off getting a new head unit as that will cost me more in material and labor. I just wish there was an upgrade to the software of the PCM to work easier with iPod's. That portion sucks.
We will see.......
We just checked the 997.1 kit, the current maps are date 05/2013. So they're pretty fresh!

If the PCM 2.1 system was remotely modern I wouldn't have an issue paying $300 for "fresh" maps. I personally end up using my phone 9 times out of 10 rather then fussing around with the on board Nav. It just takes too long.
I'd pay no more than $50 for maps just to have it for the 1 outta 10 times I do use the Nav

Show of hands, who here actually uses the PCM 2.1 Nav regularly instead of their smart phone?
I suspect that Porsche (like BMW and others) do not care about their GPS upgrades or intend to make as much money as possible of small changes.
Yves
lol 6 times the price of a cheap gps unit and equally as effective. porsche is making up for war reparations on this raw deal.
i have the 2004 version and it uses cds, like 10 of them. whats the opposite of the height of technology?
