First car wash
First car wash
I have to wash the car...it's mainly just dusty but has a few bugs on the front. I just worry about all the water marks and spots. When I got the car it had been totally detailed without a spot on it. I've heard of the 2 bucket method, the 3 bucket method and so on... I don't want to take it to a wand wash but it's just for a rinse...is there a quick way to give it a spot free rinse?
Portable deionizers/filters inline with your garden hose work well: http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...r+deionizer.do

i love washing my car !
its almost like a bonding time away from driving. When i wash and detail my car, i get to know every inch of the car, inside and out. LOL
2 bucket is the preferred method, especially for a black car.
as long as u don't wash in the sun.. and dry with waffle-weaved micro fiber towel, u should not be getting any water spots.
good luck

Optima no rinse. It's great for a light washing. Just use two buckets and lots if microfiber. Them either use a leaf blower or a quick drive to blow off excess water and then a simple wipe down.
My 2 cents...
You have two main strategies to avoid water spots. You either improve the water quality for the rinse to where you have low dissolved solids or you quickly dry following cleaning. Both approaches work. Both are fine for the finish.
Regarding 1 vs 2 vs 3 bucket approach, just make sure no abrasives come back and touch your paint. I actually go with 1 bucket, but all the brushes and such get a spray down before going back into the soap bucket. It is all about being careful....you can use 4 buckets and do a crappy job.

Thanks a lot for the info, I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.
Didn't mean to confuse you Rick, just interested in how to keep my black car sparkling without watermarks, scratches or swirl marks.

Condo living...I have been taking my car to a self-serve car wash. Instead of using their 'brush' I hose the car down, spray on the soap and then use a soft hand-glove to get all the bugs and dirt off the car before hosing it down to get rid of the soap. This is followed by a thorough wipe down using microfiber.
Due to the power of the hose at these car washes, there are certain areas that will let a little bit of water in such as the Frunk near the windshield so I put a towel to catch the water. The other area is the bottom of the door sills and when you open the engine hatch some water drips in which must be wiped down to ensure your baby is shinny inside & out.
Then a quick polish & wax and she looks like a supermodel all over again

+1 !
After washing my car and hosing down I use a squeegee to remove most of the water. I then Absorb all the excess water with a high quality micro fiber towel. After that I drive the car about 120 mph down the street assuring no left over water. Follow that up with speed shine and you're good. No water spots ever...
