It was actually pretty easy, MUCH easier than I expected. And no, you don't need the eyes or steady hands of a jeweler (this coming from a guy with hand tremors). The only semi-hard part was getting out the chip that's glued in, but with a bit of patience it wasn't that hard.

All in all, VERY happy with the result. It looks great, like a brand new 997.2 key, for MUCH less than the dealer or Suncoast. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

The 993's had a similar housing however the key at that time was pointed, like old VW keys, and could easily hurt you. At least the new ones are square.

from 997.1 -> 997.2 oem keys

did the work myself. i have to say the keys are much nicer then the original ones i had.

they are heavier, better quality, dont unlock the frunk accidentally; and the 'feel' of them when pressing the buttons is just 'better'. im sure others who have done the upgrade can attest to what i am saying.

Wished it would fold into the key fob like the Acura keys but the key fob shaped like a Porsche like the new Porsche keys.

What am I missing here? On my 05' key I just pulled the rubber assy. with the board in it and installed it in the new housing along with the 2 contacts for the battery and key itself.

Is it that easy? Did you buy the OEM replacement or the ebay ones?
Can someone post a pic of the ebay ones?

Did the car start with the new key?! From what I am reading you should be able to lock/unlock the car/frunk but the car shouldn't start (transponder chip not moved over)

So these shells from ebay don't look like a cheap imitation?
