Car wouldnt start w/o the chip....No real problem getting it out. Like has been said, just loosen it up around the edges with an x-acto blade or single sided razor blade. That actually worked better for me and chipped away the outer case holding the chip in with a small straight blade screwdriver until it fell out. 5 minutes maybe

Ok, so you replace the shell, by putting the old electronics into the new shell.
You also cut out the old transponder RFID chip from the old key plastic and put it into the new key fob plastic.

How do you attach the transponder? Snap in? Glue (what type)?

you are correct. the transponder has no tabs or clips to keep it into place. it should fit pretty snuggly in the 'transponder coffin'

i used 2 drops of white glue and let dry overnight. itll more then do the trick.

The three button remote works just fine, even if you only need the two button remote. You'll just have one button that does nothing.

That is true but now you would know its not oem. Wy would you have a 3 button key for a coupe? Im sure its a bit frustrating. You want something nice and end up with somehtign wrong because of personal error

Its no less OEM than the fact that you're using a key that wasn't originally created for that year.

For the 997.2 the chip just falls off! No need for any scraping whatsoever

Does anyone know how to pull out the original key-blade and swap it with the blank on the new remote?

Never mind, I answered my own question. Use a small flat head screwdriver (like the kind for eye-glasses repair), insert it at the base of the key-blade, and pry downward towards the key blade, while pulling back the spring loaded lock mechanism. The blade slides down and out; turn the blade slightly to the right, to avoid damaging the lock mechanism, as it comes out.

My 997.2 keys are fine.. I just wanted to know what the process was for the day I do manage to mangle or wash a key and have to replace the housing.
