Bose sound system (digital) – 680
Despite the improved standard ICE, the Bose sound system upgrade was another popular option and well worth seeking out for best audio performance. The flagship Bose system (standard on the Turbo, not available on the GT3/RS) was Porsche’s ultimate Hi Fi package. It’s certainly a sought-after extra as the standard system could only be described as adequate. Bose provided superb audio quality tuned to the 997’s interior (the full specification is given below).
This digital surround sound audio system included 13 loudspeakers (12 for the 911 Carrera Cabriolet/911 Targa 4 models) and 7-channel digital amplifier (MOST® bus integrated). The surround sound was enhanced through Centerpoint® signal processing technology and there was continuous compensation for ambient noise using integral AudioPilot® microphone. There was also a special open-top sound programme for Cabriolet models.
Total power output was 325 watts (2 x 100 watt BOSE® TSM switching amplifiers, 5 x 25 watt linear amplifiers). On the dashboard were two 2.5cm (1 inch) Neodym high-range speakers and one 7.0cm (2.76ins) mid-range speaker (centre). In the doors were two 8.0cm (3.15ins) Neodym mid-range speakers plus two 20.0cm (7.88ins) Nd® low-range speakers. In the rear side panels were two 2.5cm (1 inch) Neodym high-range speakers plus two 8.0cm (3.15ins) Neodym midrange speakers and on the Coupé there were two 13.0cm (5.12ins) low-range speakers behind rear seats (active subwoofers in 14-litre bass reflex enclosure). On the Cabriolet/Targa there was one 10.2cm x 15.3cm (4ins x 6ins) low-range speaker in the passenger footwell (active subwoofer in a 6-litre bass reflex enclosure). This was available as factory fitment only.
Note: The Bose system was upgraded for the 2009MY onwards. Power output was increased to 385 watts and now offered full 5.1 Dolby Surround
sound (with five dedicated audio channels - front left, front right, centre, surround left, surround right), while Bose’s patented Centerpoint signal
processing was upgraded to version II, which Porsche claims – “extracts an even more precise and realistic sound from the stereo signal”. While it
was certainly improved over the earlier version, it isn’t dramatically different.
Hopefully this also illustrates how helpful the guide is for 997 owner's and buyer's.

He grant3 thank you brother. This is your ultimate marketing does more than the actual product. When you read this the bose sound system is a great option while in reality it really stinks
Each to their own, there are better systems out there, no doubt about that
but the fact is the Bose is still the ultimate factory fit option.Providing you play around with the settings it is a good sounding system befitting a Porsche, I loved it in my Turbo!
Of course if you are willing to spend a large chunk of cash and loose originality there are better aftermarket systems, providing you find a Porsche expert who isn't going to cause battery drains and their like. But you could argue this about many Porsche options! For most the Bose is a good system and way better than the standard Sound Pack plus, which is why it is a good and popular pick from the options list and sought after on the used market.
The Bose System is definitely better than stock. But it's one of the worst sounding "upgrade" systems i've listen to. Definitely worth it if you're the type that doesn't want to go the aftermarket route.
Dont know why a lot gives this answer....how do yoi hear it scream when your stuck in traffic? Which could take a long time...fine if your in clear roads but are we always in clear roads?

Not sure about all of those facts or if they should all be treated as correct. The above refers to the .1 Bose system and suggests only the amp was improved, along with Dolby.
However, several specs are incorrect. The midranges in the doors are not 3.1", they are 4". In the rear panels, there are 3" and 1" speakers. The subwoofers have two drivers, they are 5.25", not 5.12" (these speakers are all speced in English dimensions, not in cm. Converting them from rounded metric numbers doesn't make sense.). Also, the sub drivers are powered by a single 100W amp, not 2. All of these from my 2008 997, for reference.

Bose Audio Settings for the 997.1
Hi all I have found the best settings for this system are:
set to drivers side in prefs
reduce treble by 2
increase bass by 2
set fader front rear to slightly more rear,
\this will bring that front speaker back from the window a little and increase the feeling around the cabin whilst still ensuring you don't get that hollow all speaker sound that is standard setting.
hope this helps

Can you post your settings like scanners did?
Also, is it normal that the sound isn't as good if you're using the ipod connector when compared to using a CD?

If you are using the porsche ipod interface, it will sound worse because it is an rf modulator. Or you are using very compressed music files on the ipod.
The treble needs to be on+5 and the bass on-2. And turn off the surround sound. No matter what though, you don't realize how bad the system is until you start to make it better.

Yes, on an 09 you have the good interface. I think you would be either 128k or 256k. At 128k vs cd, you will here a noticeable difference.
Didn't know that. Got me searching. Others may find this interesting to note about bit rate and what you should use for ripping CD's.
