Hello All

Having had a chance to try the fix, I'm pleased to say it works. I didn't reset the Aux because it had fallen out of place and couldn't get to it but it worked anyway. I pulled the power connector and re-paired anyway.

I'll try it for the next few days but hopefully that'll be a permanent solution.

Thanks to Eric and Barry especially.

Siri functionality

Had a question along similar lines. On ios5/6, Siri would activate through bluetooth (cut off music and beep much like a phone call) while listening to the pcm 2.1 car radio/CD. Other apps would do the same thing such as waze navigation, which was nice because I didn't necessarily need to listen music through the iphone to get voice over. After switching to ios 7.02, this no longer happens, can anyone confirm the fix suggested above fixes this as well?

It's fairly straightforward. You need to find a power source and tap in to the fibre optic loop off the car. Doing this is very easy because Dension supply the necessary connectors and cables you need.

Then you just connect your iPod or USB memory stick etc, depending on which you wish to use.

Install Comments

Installation was relatively simple. I probably spent 2 hours on it, but if I had removed the PCM before (hard to figure out the directions to remove the first time) and was in a hurry, I would have only needed ~30 minutes.

I did not have a CD Changer, so everything was done in the center console. The GW500S is resting behind the PCM - there is enough space, even with all of the new optical cables.

I did not really provide access to the AUX/USB plugs, as I was planning on only using the BT for streaming audio. So the dongle is behind the passenger "bolster" (the padded side of the PCM/console). This has worked out well. In the first 2 days, I had to reset the GW500S a few times, but never since then so I do not need access.

I placed the microphone inside the steering cover, in the provided stock location. This place does not work extremely well, as some people have difficulty hearing me. I enjoy the stealth of not having the microphone visible, but a better location would make calls clearer. I only use the calling occasionally - my use case is 85% about streaming Pandora/iTunes Radio for music, 10% for spoken directions from Waze/Apple Maps and only 5% for phone calls.

I did not have to recode with PIWIS. Many people said this is necessary, but I have not had to and it works great.

One issue was that the in/out optical ports were not marked, but I matched them up based on the diagram in the provided install instructions where they are marked.

I installed mine in the front, took about an hour the first time. But it'll probably take me 15 mins if I had to do it again. I split the power from the CD changer.

I have not done the recode to disable "phone module", yet. It still shows "Phone not available" on the PCM at every engine start, but it doesn't stop anything from working and the message goes away after pressing "ok".

However, although music via BT seems to be ok, phone calls via BT is pretty bad. Most people can't hear what I say (and I'm pretty sure it's not the position of the mic). So I will most likely redo and install it behind the PCM in the cabin.

I think I'll probably need to undo the optical fibre connectors. Do anyone know if these connectors can be undo (remove the connectors from the optical fibre) and re-use? Or do I have to buy new connectors?

Thanks.

I recently installed a Dension in my car. I had purchased an inexpensive mic and did some test calls to compare the one that came with the Dension to the one I purchased. Callers told me that the Dension mic sounded like I was talking through a tin can compared to the aftermarket one I purchased. So improving the call quality can be as simple as changing the mic. I can't remember if I bought the mic on ebay or Amazon, but I'll find out if anyone's interested.

Good advice. Thanks. I'll probably do that if the problem is persist after relocating the Dension inside the cabin.

Did you install the Dension in the frunk or inside the cabin?

My car didn't come with a CD changer so I just put it under the radio behind the climate controls.
