997.1 can you remove oil filter without dumping oil?

Hi Folks

Have been seeing a few carbon deposits in the filter and would like to do a few very low mileage filter changes without dumping the oil as it is fresh. Will much come out with the filter apart from what is in the housing?

logic tells me no. (but i've been wrong many times before.) in any case, obviously not nearly as much as when you dump the pan but i say just try it and see - have a bucket ready and make note of how much comes out so you know how much to add back.

I believe you can. There are some threads on oil overfilling that suggest removing the filter as a way to take out a little bit of excess.

You can remove the filter canister only just lose the oil it contains. I might suggest waiting until all you oil has settled (ie. cold motor) at it lowest point.

Yes, I just removed it. Very minimal loss of oil, 100-200ml. Easy to do if necessary.

You can. When I had my PPI, I asked the Porsche dealership to take out the oil filter and send me a picture. They did it without having to refill the oil.
