Question about 997.1 vs 997.2 rear bumper guard covers

Hello all,

I am in the midst of doing a 997.1 to 997.2 rear end conversion. I bought the tails and am currently searching for the rear bumper. I found a few deals for the rear bumper but am curious about one thing. Our bumpers have two bumper guard covers on them (aka bumperettes). Are these covers interchangeable between the 997.1 and 997.2 rear bumpers? Also, are there any other pieces I need to buy to make the bumper cover fit properly on my 997.1? Thanks!

Adnanm3,

Have you tried Suncoast Porsche? They have full and partial 997.1 to 997.2 upgrades.

You have to add part n°: 997 505 641 03 (attachment strip center) and remove yours.

Ask me how I know...

MJSpeed,

The part # you gave me is for a bumper support. Im not sure what you mean? Your car has a GT3 conversion, im looking to convert my stock 997.1 to the never 997.2 with LED tails. I already have the tails + adapter, im just looking to find out what else I need to get the rear bumper on properly - namely the bumperette pieces

I believe they are different. I recently replaced mine on a 997-2 and the DIY photos were from a 997-1 and they were different. The 997-2 have retaining wings that you just press into the slots on the bumper and they lock, no fasteners required.

My car started life as a 2008 GT3RS. I then converted the front to a 2009 CUP S widebody and the rear bumper to a 2010 Cup modified to be used with the 2008 lights. The decklid on the outside is the 2011 GT3R one, on the inside it's the 2009 Grand-Am one with the intake also from a 2009 Grand-Am, with one major difference, mine has a MAF Sensor...the uprights are from Porsche Motorsports. The wing is an RSR wing. Everything except the uprights are Carbon Fiber including the little piece in front of the decklid. I also have a Carbon Fiber hood (I also have a couple of them for sale in the classifieds).

The bumper support on a 997.1 and a 997.2 are different, so you will need to purchase the part and replace your old/original one.
