I couldn't agree more.

If it has a flat torque curve with it's variable turbo, say 500 lb/ft from 2000 - 6000 rpm, it will again smoke everything on the road.

porsche is being greedy with all this "S" bs... just give us one 911 turbo please. We already know that the profitmargin of the 996 turbo was the highest of the entire 911 ineup. No need to be so blatantly money hungry. It's a huge turn-off.

And yes, Porsche needs to get their head out of their *** and have a look around. They are no longer the performance leaders.

I agree with alot of you guys. But one thing I think you are all missing is the fact that in the new turbo coming out, I read that they are going to increase the torque even more!! They are talking abiut getting full torque starting from 22oo rpm's up to 6000!! If that be the case, the 450 they are gonna give us is gonna be plenty!!
My friend has a 2005 430 coupe/6speed, and I race him all the time with my 2005 TT-S coupe. We are tied all the way from the beginning of 2nd all the way to the end of 5th!!

IMO, the new 997TT is gonna beat the **** out of the 430 as well as just about anything else!!
And if they make an S, well lets just say that will be the car to have..

Porsche has created this problem themselves. They are busy trying to figure out how to make their horsepower hierarchy work. If the standard carrera didn't exist, the cayman S would have the 3.6 liter 320 hp motor as it can easily handle. The powerkit is pointless, the 3.8 liter can do 100 hp per liter easily it should be doing that out the factory door and they should not be charging 18k for it.

Porsche has gotten caught up in what makes the most money. The emphasis there is on making cash instead of putting the emphasis on performance like they used to. The 993 turbo was ground breaking when it hit, the 996 turbo didn't have the same impact (although fantastic) and it seems that everyone has HUGE expectations for the 997 turbo.

Porsches current power levels:

Cayman S: 295
997 Carrera: 320
997 Carrera S: 355
996 GT3: 380
997 Carrera S X51: 381
996 Turbo: 415
996 Turbo X50: 450
996 GT2: 480 or so (underated)

They are having a tough time slotting everything in where it should go. Some models are being held back, carrera, carrera S, and cayman S while others aren't being pushed far enough.

It isn't complicated porsche, do what I say and everything will be fine:

Cayman S: 3.6 liter 320 hp
Carrera S: 3.8 liter 381 hp
GT3: 3.8 liter 425 hp dry sump
Turbo: 500
Turbo S: 540-550
GT2: 570

It really isn't that complicated, but what makes the most money rules now.

Just add 100 hp to every model right now...then we are good. Ok Porsche? You would do well in listening to us, we are your core customers. Oh, and drop the fu***ng "S" bull****.

Porsche is doing all this S bizzz because people pay for it.....When you really think about it is the base Carerra that much slower than the S? NO!

X51 this and S that , Porsche is out of control!

I have had a 2000 996 ans a 2005 997....Great cars but over priced IMO.....

Realty says to buy a modded 996 that has gotten hit in depreciation and save a crapload of money over a new one....You can blow through years worth of tires and drive the crap out of you 02-03 Turbo while saving what, 40k?

The only way to fix the situation is for us to stop paying for all of it! However, that isn't going to happen so porsche will keep doing it.

I can't wait till Porsche comes out with an 'S' for their GT model!

Sticky, you're absolutely right. Porsche Marketing > you and me! Hence people buying their cup cars! Limited Edition = Limited Interest.
