Turbo and Turbo S expected to launch simultaneously*
Turbo and Turbo S expected to launch simultaneously*
According to my dealer Porsche is planning to launch the turbo and turbo S together....turbo will have 450hp and the turbo S - 500hp. They are planning on marketing them like the Carrera and the Carrera S....Anyone else got any info on this?

If those hp #'s are correct, expect an initial big rush, than a loud, dull thud. 500 hp is the magic # these days. If you don;t have 500 hp on the "turbo" model you might as well pack it up & go home. From the Z06's, to the AMG's to the M's all are pushing 500 hp (not to mention even the upcoming SVT will be getting close).

The GT2 is an all together different animal...but, to have the same, top of the line/company flagship with an "extra" 50 horse "option" is just dumb. Make the car what it's supposed to be...450 or 500. There should only be one "turbo".

Even if there are those Porsche purists that claim those are not competitors to the Porsche..OK...then let's look at Ferrari. They go from 396 hp (360 Modena) to 483 hp (F430) a +87 hp gain, vs. 415 to 450 hp for the Turbo (a whopping 35 hp). To put this into perspective, the 360 was thought of as the competitor to the 911 TT at 396 hp vs. 415 hp, the Porsche had a +19 hp advantage & much more tq. The new comparison would be the 450 hp Turbo vs. the 483 hp Ferrari. Now we would be at a -33 hp disadvantage ! Not to mention Ferrari is not incorporating the use of aluminum on their models (currently the 612 Scalinetti & for the future 600 Imola). The Porsche reasoning that they are a small car manufacturer and it doesn't make fiscal sense is nonsense. If Ferrari & Jag can do it, then step up to the plate and use aluminum (and give us more hp !!!).

how are you going to make a new TT that has less horsepower than the 996 x50? That is just retarded. why even do a new tt. if this is the case, they should just wait until the 998, and they could keep prices up on the current TT's and 997's. I hope this isnt the case, because it would be pretty sad for us hardcore pcar guys.
450hp = F OFF!!! i don't care what you guys say PORSCHE or not PORSCHE but at over $100,000 for a pure sports car you should get at least 500hp... name one Sports Car at that price segment is under 500hp or at least close to that figure!? i mean if Porsche was building a GT or cruiser i would understand but guys come on half of us take these cars to the track! if they want to sell GTs other makers are better choices! (Mercedes, BMW, Masserati etc!!!) come on Porsche lighten up! i sure hope the 998 has at least 600hp to keep up with even BMW's 4 door sedans!!!
There is some reasoning behind the 450hp as the 997 GT-3 is expected to push 405hp. The turbo would have 45hp more! Infact the 996-GT-3 had 380hp and the 996 turbo had 415 a 35hp difference! Porsche must feel that 450hp should be enough to take on the Ferrari's 430 especially with DSG.....If the turbo S pumps out 500hp the GT-2 should pump at least 580hp??..
