Pre-purchase opinions 09C2S

I've spent much time reading through pertinent posts here, enough to trust there is good advice to be had.

I'm purchasing an 09C2S, <10k mi, offered with a P dealer CPO. Clean Carfax showing 2 POs. The car is far away, so much can't be seen until I make a trip.

From well reasoned posts here, I've decided remotely ordering a PPI from another local dealer is both inconvenient and redundant. I will make a final personal inspection just before closing the deal, and reconsider if warranted.

The first threshold before an offer, is to ask the dealer to perform a DME, and provide me a report. or- if a DME was performed for the CPO, to send that report.

Now my question.
Can/does a DME report provide information that positively indicates from which car it was recorded? eg, does a VIN get electronically reported with the DME data?

More later, as I work through the sequence of pre-purchase to delivery.

Thanks all

hi

I bought my 997.1 CPO from a dealer too. so here is my story.

every single sale man will tell you their car are mint/showroom/prestine condition. is always a lie!
first, I asked for a picture of the 3 biggest scratch/dent inside and outside (total 6 pictures) so I could see what sale man consider showroom condition...

yes ask for PPI done by another porsche dealer. I did.
they found a pluged tire, defect AC unit and oil leak.
after over a year of ownership of this car, I can tell you there are no leak, dealer that did PPI manage to find a way to put oil while I was looking somewhere else. i'm sure... car is bone dry and I tried everyting (drive like grand-ma, drive it like you stole it, storage for 4 months, DD, drive once a week...)
dealer doing the PPI did everything they could to convince me to not buy other dealer car. they wanted me to buy their car.

don't buy without seeing the car. airfare + hotel + food (like what, $1000 max) price is nothing compared to the price of the car. go there! dont send $50k+ and hope for the best...

DME report I got from dealer selling the car didn't show the VIN on the overrev page. but I saw the same overrev numbers on the machine of the dealer doing the PPI

Research the dealer reputation on yelp and forums

Indep ppi should be done by an indep shop

Pay special attn to body work, wear and tear items not covered by cpo

dealer wouldn t give me DME , said they cant on a CPO car..
Checked it myself and the DME was fine, no overrevs at all.
Get it in writing that the depo is totally refundable if you wish upon seeing the car.
A >10 car should look and drive new.
I also located my car 1500 miles away. (Ft Meyers Fla. Porsche)
They should have tons of pics to send you .

This is a simple process that people make way too complicated.
Basically if for any reason you get a bad or off feeling from the dealer, walk away.

There is no reason why a dealer wouldn't be accommodating to sending you multiple pics, videos, any service records or whatever else kind of information you're requesting. If they're making excuses or taking forever, walk away and start your search again.

Thanks for replies-

Anyone have a DME report or a screen shot that shows the VIN on the report?

DME report

Can you post or PM a copy to me?

Need to know what to expect for format and content when I ask for one.

Thanks

Yes, here ya' go. This was just done on mine a week ago. It shows all 6 ranges, date, and VIN. Was done at a Porsche dealer on a CPO vehicle. Sounds like you need to keep looking for a good dealer and a good car.

Good luck!

Cerbo & Steve

Thanks for the docs.

So cerbomark's was a Duramertric report (BTW - perfect) and Steve's was from a P dealer PIWIS instrument?

That's what I wanted to see - VIN is reported, with Durametric directly, with PIWIS on a separate screen.
