Porsche 997 hardtop operation

I Just purchased the hardtop for my 997, I have a question, how do you prevent accidental operation of the softop while the hardtop is on? If someone were to click the softop button it would just mess everything up in there wouldn't it? I have never had the hardtop before so I have no idea, anyone??

And it's like standing on the edge of a cliff - you just can't stop that desire to jump. The button is just taunting you to push it... don't give in.

IIRC once the hardtop is locked into place it disables the switch for the soft top. I think this info can be found in the manual.

and the hardtop look is SO cool, like getting a new car with a different profile, the only thing I would worry about is the creases just eating away at the soft top, eating, eating, wrinkling that beautiful canvas, if I had a cab I would definitely get the hardtop...pics?

i will upload some as soon as I get it, the hardtop is on it's way from Florida and I had to get the mounting brackets for the rear since 997's don't have them stock, also on their way

also, the canvas does get wrinkled a bit, but put the top up on a nice sunny warm day and they iron out, my softop spends most of the summer folded away anyway and it's in very good shape.

maybe on the 996's that had the hardtop as STD, but 997's don't come with a hard top STD, it was an option they don't even have the rear mounting brackets, my manual doesn't mention anything about a hardtop

So there was a mention of pics.....and I've had these up before but here again.....wife's C4S with summer 19s and soft top......and then the current winter with 18s and hard top.

Just a minor tip on cranking down the two allen bolts on the backside.....do observe the ft.lb. spec in the manual. Bad things happen if you go overboard in that dept.

http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf...rrera_PCNA.pdf

Page 200 of the PDF, 198 of the manual. Top right under the caution! Warning.

"Make sure that the front locking lever G is al- ways correctly locked.
This disables the convertible top drive."

I interpreted this to mean that this disables the convertible top switch. Others please chime in if I understood this wrong.

how do you measure the ft lbs on the back bolts? I manually installed them and was very observant of keeping enough clearance so the hardtop would not scratch the car paint, I kept everything loose and tightened once all lined up, the Allen bolts are tightend all the way but used the bottom and top large nuts to align the top so all the way still gives enough clearance so my car's paint won't get scratched, also do you happen to know the part No for the plastic cover that "covers" the front release clamp? Mine didn't have it

Rennlist has a great write up on adjusting your top so it doesn't scrape/scratch your car. Pelican Parts and/or Suncoast probably has the P/N for the closeout for the front latch. I think they are around $30 if I recall correctly.

997 563 551 00 trim cover part number. PET also shows the number 01c designation for black but I believe it only comes in black.
