Searching on the forum Some people say they are interchangeable then some say the two cars have different mufflers. Looking at the parts catalogue I do see two different model versions of non PSE exhaust but don't know what it means. They are:

Model I756 (sport classic model??):
997 111 995 31
997 111 996 31

Model I171 (usa acoustic model??):
997 111 311 30
997 111 312 30

Can anyone give me a definitive answer if 997.2 base cans are the same as 997.2S ones? Would they be the I171 part numbers for both cars?

I am 99.99% sure that they are the same. The only difference IMHO is that the "S" exhaust has dual exhaust pipes. Why don't you have a look at the Tubi exhaust I have in the classifieds (hint, hint)?

 

I assume you mean dual exhaust tips, right? Also the diameter of the exhaust pipe on the "S" mufflers is slightly bigger.
