997.1 vs 997.2 Side Mirrors

Have anyone noticed that the side mirrors of 997.2 cars are bulkier / bigger than those on 997.1 cars?

+1

Vast improvement over the older shape. Much larger field of view. Also, the auto dimming feature (if optioned) includes the right as well as left outside mirror.

The 997.2 side mirrors were redesigned bigger to meet US regulations. Apparently, the US government felt the old mirrors were too small to be useful.

Obscure Reference: (Gumball Rally) Remember Raul Julia as Franco in the Ferrari Daytona, when he rips off the rearview mirror at the start of the race and exclaims "What’s-a behind me is not important!”

Cannot be! I've not noticed bigger side mirrors on latest Ferraris, Lambos, etc...
Different Classes of cars? Italy is part of EU.

+1 for the bigger mirrors, too. However, I heard that because of the new design of the 997.2 mirrors, wind whistles are some of the issues that many owners are experiencing at higher speed?

I've ever noticed any wind noise issues with my 2009 Carrera S.

Nor have we. At least... not up to 110. Haven't had occasion to cruise any faster.

I have not heard a whistling sound per se, but I can hear the air flowing around the mirrors, and it is not any different than the previous generation mirrors. I suspect some people are over-sensitive about these things and they are focused on a cushy Lexus-type ride.

I don't actually mind wind sounds but sleeker mirrors do for me but the new mirrors just look too audi TT. Hmm. The GT3s seem to have different ones reading GTPorsche's latest issue.
