I was talking to my indy tech just prior to getting my clutch replaced. I had been considering getting an L&N Engineering IMS retrofit while he already had access to the IMS with the clutch out. My tech informed me that L&N Engineering was recommending a re-inspection of their IMS kit every two years once installed. This was the first I'd heard of that. Can anyone else verify that L&N is making this recommendation on their installation once installed? If so, it seems like it would end up being very expensive. I opted NOT to get the retrofit, since I have an extended warranty which would cover a failure should it occur. I was concerned that installing an aftermarket kit might void the warranty - even tough an IMS failure would cost way more to fix, since the entire engine would be kaput.
I remember seeing this recommendation regarding the bearing in L&N literature and thinking that it reflected a certain lack of confidence in their product. You'd think all that high tech would buy you greater peace of mind. I mean really, why bother? Unfortunately don't recall where I saw it. If you are interested I'd discuss it with them directly. You will most certainly void any warranty.
I though you could only get the LN thing on early 2005 engine as the bearing is outside the engine, 2006+ the bearing is inside the engine so you can't change it unless you take the engine apart...

Drive it. Wonderful cars these. Change the oil 2x a year and keep the revs up as was meant to be. Re my 06 S: 8 years and 40k miles later I am still smitten. The sky is not falling my friend. At least not today.
You change your oil every 2500 miles? Isn't that a lot?

2x a year is not the same as q 2500 miles. In my case the maths work out that way but additive packages deteriorate and condensation degrades lubricant over time as well as mileage. Short hops and low mileage actually> more frequent oil changes. Or you can lease the thing and do nothing. The disposable 100K$ car. If you buy used look for a good service record. Maintain you car the same way despite that modern manufacturers want you to think you never have to do nething. Good business for them. But I'm an old guy so you can do what you want

You are fine. Just commenting that how the car is driven is just as important as how many miles it has gone when it comes to oil change. For example, at the race track the oil may be changed after each race, say 100 miles? If you were driving cross country you would not stop to change the oil til you got back home, maybe 8000 miles? If you start the car once a week, drive it to the end of the driveway and back, and it never gets to operating temp for long enough you should change it way before 3000 miles. There's no simple number for the question "how often should I change my oil?"
You said 40k over 8 years = 5k/year, and you change the oil twice per year so that's 2500 miles per oil change?
I understand that stop & go driving and track driving put a lot more wear on your oil than freeway driving, but that still sounds excessive. I think Porsche recommends 15,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.
But to be honest, if I were shopping for a used car today and the owner told me he changed the oil every 2500 miles I'd be thrilled!
Drives me nuts that on our cars there's no plain old dipstick that will let me look at the oil and see how dirty it is.

The fact that I drive 5000 miles a year is not the point here but your math is impeccable. If I drive 8000 miles next year, though, I will still change the oil twice.
I believe more frequent oil change may reduce chance of IMS failure. That is what OP asked about. Cheap attempt at increased peace of mind for me.
I concur on the dipstick thing but for ease of use not because I am sure you can see when is the optimal time for oil change.

I love this place. Put me in the camp that changes oil when it needs it, be that every 3000 or every [XXXX] but NEVER [XXXXX] trust me on that one!!!
My services records show the date I changed my oil, what parts were used with a copy of the receipt paid for those parts. Were I to purchase a car used from someone with records like that it sure would be a nice thing to know.
LOL read the above and factor in the fact that washing my P car and changing the oil is also cheap therapy
