From 996TT to 997 S

I have asked the following question on the 996TT board but I also want to see how the 997 guys think.

"I am thinking of changing my 02 996 TT into a 05 997 S. Do you think it is a good or a stupid idea? I understand that 997 S is a bit better in handling but 996 TT is much better in power and is 4-wheel drive (I don't track the car) which I like very much. Will the rear wheel drive 997 be difficult to handle (particularly in the rain)?"

then get the 997s asap while you can still get something for the 996tt ..... when the 997tt comes out the 996tt will take a big hit . I would much rather have the 997 S than the 996tt , and those who have traded their 996tt for 997S's say it was a good move . Lets face it the 996 was a nice car but the 997S is in another leage and a return to what the 911 was really about .

I love my 997S and almost pulled the trigger on a 996 Turbo but after I did my homework it was clear....997S is the way to go!

Back to my original question - how does it feel like with rear wheel drive porsche? Will it skid easily in wet weather? The 4-wheel drive save me a couple of times. I am not sure if the driving pleasure will be equivalent if not better. I understand the turbo power is magnificent but I've heard that the Sport Chrono package and 355hp engine can (to an extent) match the 996 TT. Is this true?

I was just about to state that, obviously rain/crap weather is a concern for you.

I love the wide body cars, but the cahracter of the car with the added weight and driven front wheels are negatives for me personally.

I would suggest you take your Turbo out for a spin and then drop in and drive teh 997S and see what you think.

Guys, thanks for your input. I think I am more inclined to keeping the 996TT than to change it to the 997S (since I am no pro, the 4 wheel drive system is definitely an important factor).
