quick question about battery intall

the battery on my 2005 911 C2 died. I read some threads in this forum and decided to go with the wal mart maxxx H7 / 94R etc.

For anyone that has used this battery, can you explain how to connect the gas or vapor hose. I know i have to plug one side, the opposite side that i hook up. I get that, but the connector, that i took off the Interstate batter that was in there had a rectangular clip on vent type piece. the one on the Maxxx is a round type of hole.

Any input is appreciated, i am doing it tonight so get your advice in ASAP>

thanks in advance.

The round hole one is the fitting that came stock with the car. The 997 comes with a Moll battery that has the round connector on the hose. I just unplugged that hose from the battery and plugged it into the new battery.

Whomever put the interstate battery in must have changed the adapter at the end. If you are lucky, the round factory plug, plugs into what is an adapter at the end of the line to make it square, and you just have to remove that square adapter (I have no idea on what one would do to fit the round factory plug to a square interstate plug).

Worst case, get a new round plug form the dealer as its part of the car.

I did it and can t remember for sure,,, but it works without a dealer trip for sure. Does the nipple come out of the piece you took off? When you get the new battery home you will see it works.... boy it s tough getting old. if you can take a pair of plyers and pull the round nipple out the the square part you took off.... sorry my memory fails me.

so here is what i did. After using the battery to jump via the fuse panel to get under the hood, because i closed it, with the battery out. (Bad idea for anyone referencing how to change a battery).

The battery fit perfectly. I took off the piece that was obviously for the interstate battery.

then i plugged the round, (maybe original?) tapered insert into the gas escape hole (not sure what the real name is)

now here is one little question, i am not sure if this is the original piece or not but it does not fit securely into the hole. Either the piece is too small or the hole (not being an OEM battery) is too large.

So i used a dab of silicone to secure in the hole. Sound OK? I am not really sure how important this battery gas escape collector tube is?? anyone?

but everything works and the car starts. there is a PASM error, which i understand will correct itself when i get it back on the road.

And then the car went back to its hibernation station for another few months.

sounds good, as long as the piece can t fall out... if so, the silicone sounds like a good idea.
BTW, I just came from a guys garage that had the exact same lift you have. Love it!

Without the plug the hydrogen based gas escaping the battery as the car works could build up in the battery compartment area and a spark could cause an explosion. Chance: slim, but possible. Thats why they have the vent tube. Just make sure the un-used hole is securely plugged. Silicon should be OK.

I'm going to Walmart to get the plug that somone had stolen from my new battery's post covers.
