LED Tails - Dectane vs Del Rey Customs?

Hi everyone,

I've done some searches, but have not seen these two lights compared together. I know all about Dectane, and that they are closest to the OEM, and made by DEPO, which is what I prefer.

My question is, are the Del Rey ones made by DEPO as well? Pricing seems good, but I can't really tell if they're supposed to be more similar to Dectane or RotTec. Can anyone chime in?

Thanks,
Andy

In my search for LEDs I was leaning toward the Dectanes because of the factory look. After researching all the aftermarket led manufacturers and reviews I ended up going with Del Ray because of their customer support and warranty. I've had them installed 6 months with no issues and I'm happy with the look. I don't think Del Rays lights are made by DEPO and I do believe they are the same as the RotTec but could be mistaken.

Del Rey's tail lights are very similar to Rottec's one. Not the same as Dectane's one.

IMHO the Dectane is clearly better looking, but that is subjective.

If you search you'll find that both have a long history of quality issues. Including people who had them for a year or more then had them suddenly quit without warning, or start to throw codes.

If I knew for sure this wouldn't happen, I'd buy a set of Dectanes.

FWIW my Delrey Custom Gen 2 are DEPO. OEM looks, no codes, work great.

The Gen 2 were Depo Second Production Run. I believe when i did have the depo's i was pretty up front about them. I stopped Carrying the Depo's because the US distributor MAXXZone Stop supporting the Product due to the issues Secret Asian Man Has stated.

Depo and Dectane are the same Light. Dectane is Just another Distributor. Don't let anyone tell you anything else. The good ones have the dual out board resistors but those are hard to find. You find the B grade on Ebay with a copper resistor attached to it. STAY AWAY from thoes.

Our DRC lights on the other hand are Made By J.A.D.

Rottec and Spyder Are made By Sonic (Rottec buys from Spyder)

Best thing on the DRC lights avaiable at www.delreycustoms.com is the 1 year free replacement warranty.

If i light goes bad send me a short 20 second video of the problem to saturndrcmedia@gmail.com and i process out a free replacement once the credit is issued by JAD. Normally takes less time than shipping me back a bad light. Occasionally the will go bad it is an electronic part but to day all warranties have been done quick and headache free.

Bottom Line I'm Here to help.

Also with JAD were running a New Production on the 997 Lights and made some internal changes to keep the Driver side from going Bad. Out of the Few lights we did have an issue with they were all Driver side. This has been resolved. I actually take every bad light a part and see where it fails and send my finding back to JAD so they can make revisions in hopes of having the best quality lights and service available.

Thanks for all the Kind words and Support!

The DRC and Rottec/etc are all the same. You think multiple companies spent massive amounts of money on tooling for injection molding plastic, DOT rating, etc. and they all arrived on the identical design?

I don't doubt that there have been some refinements in different production runs, but if someone is telling you that they are a different manufacturer, despite identical lens design, they are feeding you BS.

thats what i always figured, and the diff branding is a result of creative middle men/distributors.

Call me crazy, but to me it looks as if the Rottec and Depos looks different. The red and white sections are different sized.

Does anyone have a solution for Depo LEDs that have started throwings codes after a year plus of trouble free use. I'm ready to throw these in the junk pile but not sure which direction to go. I bought the car with the lights installed so I don't have the OEM pieces to put back in.

I have only seen two different rear lights. The Dectane/Depo ones in a couple of styles and the Spyder ones that are sold by quite a few different people. The Dectane ones do look a little more OEM, but they are nearly double the price. The Spyder ones, which I have have, use one incandescent bulb for fog/tail/brake. They do not throw any codes and work just fine. The Spyder ones can be had for $500 or less.

I have only seen one type of front LEDs. These can be picked up for $300. My front LEDs do throw a code, but no dash message or other warning. You would only see the code if you look for it.

I do not own LED tail lights, but perhaps this solution (https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post3815281) posted in the Turbo section may help you. Posts #82 - #99 outline how to add a parallel load to the circuit which may remedy your error code.

Do your DEPOs have the resistor box? I bought mine a month ago, and am not getting any codes. There is an external resistor box that came with the lights. I am not sure what "gen" my lights are though.
