Tinting(all opinions)
You mention your daughter. Are you tying to protect her from heat and UV? IMO, there's a difference between tinting and sun/heat protection. If UV/heat protection is your concern for your daughter (and privacy/cool-factor is not a concern) go with a light tint in the back and no tint in the front. This may be your best bet for aesthetic and still not break the law.
Clarification: the film on my car is light but it does an excellent job in protecting my hand/face. I don't regret paying extra for it. As a matter of fact, I am about to get the windshield 'filmed' with the lightest shade just to protect my face when the sun is directly front of me.

If I were you, I would go with light color all around with maximum UV/sun protection. If you get nailed (which most likely you won't), then remove the front. For reference, the film I am considering for the windshield is almost clear and the ones I have on the back and side glasses are "medium" in darkness.
I believe in California, it is also illegal to tint the front. Sometimes, I just roll down the windows just in case I encounter an LEO having a bad day
Thanks all for the heads up. i already ordered 50% tint film to install to see how they'll look. I'll probably put them on all the windows and if I get a ticket, lesson learned.
