Tinting(all opinions)
Tinting(all opinions)
I just joined this forum and just bought my first 997. First off I would like to thank all in this community for the quality of information and opinion.
A question for all. NJ law excludes tinting the windsheild, front side windows, head lights and tail lights. I'm gonna have my little girl with me in the backseat, so by law, I would like to tint the rear window and the small passenger windows to maybe 80% -50%. How bad or good would it look?
All opinions appreciated.

personally not a fan of tinting just the rear glass and the rear side windows.. not aesthetically pleasing IMO
too bad ur state does not allow for front side windows to be tinted as well...

50-80% is super light, you could probably get away with tinting your front windows 50% and never get harassed. i have had all my cars tinted 35% and never had an issue including in NJ. if your goal is heat rejection and not privacy, i would suggest Spectra PhotoSync Nano Tint.
here's my car with 35% tint. it offers increased privacy but you can still see inside, which is a cop's main concern.

Yes. I am super jealous of everone who can get full tints especially all who've responded so far. Love those full tints.
The LEO's in my area not so forgiving though. I might have to just register my car in NY if the partial tints look horrible.

35% front /25% back - the classic (and legal) 90s style.
in the future however im just going to go 35/35 or even lighter 50/50. the most important thing imo is to cut out the heat/uv completely.
some people go as dark as 5% visibility in the rear windows/rear windshield and it makes rear visibility during night time a pita.

80% is nothing, not worth the cost. I recommend 50% front sides, 50% rear sides, 50% rear for NJ. It's still very light and will not attract attention by itself and avoids the odd looking light front/dark rear combo. And if stopped by a LEO, roll down both front windows before he walks up to the vehicle.
Anything darker in the front sides and you will attract attention.

I do light tint on all side and rear windows all around despite it being against the law in CA. The heat reduction is enormous. It looks great instead of mismatched as well.
Plus, after having skin cancer (not on my face) and the left side of my face obviously sun exposed vs. the right from being in a vehicle, I'll get a doctors note if needed.

From what everyone has said so far, I think I may just tint 50% for all windows until I get a ticket. Then remove the front sides and take it from there.
@kustom64 I'm also by northern jersey, but I take the GWB all the time. Fort Lee cops don't play around though. They stop people all the time.

It's too bad they don't make one of these for the Carrera.
