Sorry, threadjacking shameless plug! Don also does a great job, I also had a wheel from him.
Seems like you've had steering wheels from both DCT and Dallas Custom, how would you compare the the two?

Simple. DCT is a full custom wheel. The one I'm selling had custom grip and a flat bottom. Dallas Custom is just a rewrap. Not to say that is bad, he does a very good job and uses padding and custom stitching. The price of each reflects what you get; both are very good craftsmanship and both are good values.

Wheeler is infamous around these parts
Spent most of the day running around in the 911. LOVE the new wheel! Again, I was back and forth on the perforated leather, glad I got it.

like custom home, it is tailored to your liking. Selling a custom home, suit, car, or whatever is difficult. Personally, IMO flat bottom wheel belong on the race track. Frankly, the stitching on your DCT wheel isn't all that great. And alcantara wheel give me have a feeling of unsanitary (sweat soaked). took my off for that reason.

I would agree on the flat bottom. I REALLY like the flat bottom look and I thought hard about it. But in the end I think for driving on the street, hand over hand tight turns, probably a round wheel would be better.

Ferrari, lamborghini, and audi have all gone to flat bottom wheels. I like the look and from the porsche school I've learned to keep one hand in the nine or three position through every turn. I didn't believe them at first, but the instructors were right-you don't need to take both hands off in all but the tightest turns. The result is smoother than doing hand over hand. Anyway, it's personal preference.

I got my wheel back from Dallas Custom and I am really really disappointed, a total waste of $500. The alcantara is puckered most of the way around the stitching and you can feel puckering around the stitch line on the top of the wheel at 10 and 2 o'clock and can feel a gap between the material and the wheel in these spots.

My intention was to get it recovered and then sell it but I feel embarrassed to try and sell it second hand and I reckon I'd only get the same money as before with the worn alcantara at best.

Never heard of that happening before and there's been a lot of reviews by now. Got any pictures showing what you describe? Got mine back recently and I have no complaints.

Seems like a lot of the full alcantara wheels I've seen have some weird spots or wrinkles (which is why I opted for leather), but you've got a few that are questionable. Let Don know, I'm sure he'll take care of you.

Looks unacceptable. I would ask them to do it over.

I wouldn't be happy with that either. There's partial alcantara on mine but it's nothing like yours. No puckering and the seams are perfect. Ask for a redo.

Sending it back is not going to happen. I am in Australia and he's blaming me. When I sent the wheel there I said I want it 100% OEM, he then fitted it with extra padding. I told him that I never requested this and then he argued with me that I should have it done because everyone does it, but I said no I want it OEM. He redid it and then came back with this email when I said it wasn't good enough:

"I already told you about the Alcantara work, it needs the extra padding. It would feel and look much better. All of the steering wheel re-upholsters out there do this by hands, so you can't expect it 100% likes OEM which was done by machine. We've done hundred wheels like this and of course everyone of them was added the extra padding, not a single one of them was complaint about the work quality. We can stay in this business for almost 10 years and that's because we know what we are doing."

So he is telling me that he can't do the OEM finish without the extra padding. Basically he can't back his work and is trying to blame me for it. He never said he couldn't do it to the standard I wanted it and I went to great pains to say how it must be of an OEM finish. He is using a trimming trick to mask the quality of his work. At no point in our emails did he give me an caveats about the quality of the finish or work.

Very poor.
