Can anyone tell me what this is?

I was at the shop today getting the gundo hack done and while car was on lift I noticed a small area with a little oil or something ( tranny fluid ) ? First thing, is this something that needs to be addressed quickly ? Is it normal like on older models were you would get oil from seals? Is that the oil pan? I know it might sound stupid ...I'm trying to learn as much as possible about the car. It was supposed to be a great day getting the beautiful sound from my car after gundo hack was done ...now I don't know if I have a problem on my hands....Thanks in advance..

From my experience most cars have some sort of similar "leakage" near the trans or somewhere under the car. More pronounced in daily drivers or higher mileage cars.

"Tranny oil" is not oil. It's transmission fluid. Most of the time it's red.

Should've asked for a second opinion while you were under there. I say clean it up, then check it every so often. Keep your eye on the fluid levels weekly.

In my internet mechanic opinion it's not a big deal.

If I am leaking trans fluid is there a way to check (tiptronic) ? Will I get a warning light if I get low ?

Why wait for further problems to develop. While you don't indicate the age of the car it probably needs a transmission flush and refill. While you're getting that done the tech can access what's causing the leak and fix it. Probably not a major issue but waiting till it is can often be really costly.

looks like oil pan gasket seal.... that s a very slow sweating for lack of a better term.
Very common, just had my gasket replaced with only 10K miles on the car. Tech say it s very common even on new cars.
I actually just had mine done last week right over at Englewood Porsche.(NJ).
I waited and also got a fresh re fill of oil as my car is still under the CPO warrenty.
But not to solve problems on the inter net a tech will take about 30 seconds to verify the problem and if it is the gasket it s no big deal.
PS/ as some else said , the pic is so close I can t get an overall view of the location and yours appears to be a 997.1.

I'm going to a shop on Monday to address my front fan issue and oil change . If its transmission fluid I'll see if I can have that changed and looked at. When should tranny fluid be changed ?
