Rear deck emblem not reusable?

Took my Aerokit wing to a reputable paint shop in DFW area, a new emblem has to be order because they said the stock one cannot be re-use. Their reason was something about the old glue...

Thought?

They are held with double sided tape. This is destroyed when you remove the emblem. If someone had enough time and patience you could possibly cut out some double sided tape to work. I know I wouldn't bother and would just pay the $60 or whatever for a new emblem.

That make sense, their explanation wasn't clear, don't mind paying $100.00, just making sure my legs aren't pulled.

No leg pulling, but it's always worth checking. I've removed a couple and without some very serious OCD going on, I couldn't imagine trying to cut out some tape to get it as good as factory. New emblem is definitely the way to go.

It would take about 15 minutes, some very thin double stick tape and a sharp razor and you could reattach the emblem yourself. But whatever your time is worth.

I mentioned dental floss...but they said nah...had to take their words for it. Shop is very popular repairing Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc...

No biggie, the old emblem can go onto my truck tailgate

This, very simple job, most shops can't be bothered and would spend your $100 to save themselves 15 minutes

I did the 3M double sided tape on my Carrera S. I thought it would be really easy until I did it. When you stick the tape to the underside of the emblem even a brand new razor or scalpel drags and sticks to the adhesive as you cut. Think about trying to cut inside the "e" and "a". Then the pull off tape covering the surface that will stick to your car doesn't cut cleanly and leaves little sticky edges that are really difficult to get off while pulling the tape off, which of course you want to stay on until you stick it to the car. By the time I had it cleaned up and ready to stick on the car I had to paint it black again. Since I am 80% retired and have time to fool with things like this it was well worth it. A $10 expenditure on tape and spray paint + my labor.

I can certainly see why a body shop would not bother when they can spend the customer's $$ and save lots of time.

FWIW, I spent 35 years in Auto, Motorcycle and Aircraft "mechanic" positions.

Not hard to do. I've done mine twice to paint it flat black. Dental floss or a credit card can get it off without damaging the paint. The tape is easy just cut long thin strips of the 3m mounting tape (get the red roll that's exterior quality). Home Depot sells it. You just lay the strip inside the carrera lettering and trim off the excess. As long as you cut the strips thin enough to fit its a simple job.
