How many times have you replaced your shifter cable?

Following my post yesterday where my shifter cable went out over the weekend. I bought the 2007 Carrera S2 about two months ago. Car had only 11K miles and I added roughly another 600mi since. The repair is covered under CPO warranty and I don't know what the previous owner did with the car.

I have read that is is a known issue however wondering if I should expect it to happen again? Has anyone experienced the shifter cable or connector breaking more than once?

Thank you in advanced.

Kal

'07 , 42 K miles , no issues. Previous owner may have been heavy handed with the shifter or cable took it's own life out of boredom from having to sit in the garage all the time.

I had the dealer replace the factory shifter in my '10 C4S with the factory short-shift kit. The tech forgot to properly secure the cable locking tab on the shifter when he installed the new shifter. A couple of days later while my wife was driving the car she stopped at a drive-up coffee window and the shifter stopped working completely. Turns out the cable popped off. Towed it to the dealer and they fixed it quickly, this time properly securing the locking tab. No problems since and she has about 21K miles on her car now. Is it possible your car has had the shifter replaced?

Once, at around 35k miles.

it isn't a big issue, you probably won't snap it again as I'm at 67k and drive the thing like it should be driven.

85K miles and no issues that I know of but I do keep the DIY handy when the time comes to replace them.
