Carrera2S Guy is infamous around these parts
Instrument Panel

The white face gauges and black numerics on my 2005 Carrera S have shown some unusual wear. It seems like overnight I noticed that the white face developed some small bubbles while the black speedo numbers have faded and look blurred. There haven't been any changes in the manner in which I garage the car, driving conditions, etc. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this condition. I suspect that given all the mileage and other data stored in the ECU module that a replacement is not an option.

I have the same exact problem, bubbles under the gauge face.

If you do a search you will get tired reading the threads and post on this subject.

Unfortunately, I have heard different answers from 2 different dealers. I found a RED face gauge set from a Carrera S the same year as mine with the same options and transmission, but higher miles.

It is crucial from what I understand for matching tranny/options to make them work, since the cluster stores mileage and features like chrono.

Now where it gets confusing is one mechanic told me that it was a plug and play as long as your OK with the mileage on the donor cluster you are installing. Another mechanic told me no matter if its identical to yours it must be programmed either way, and only the tranny and car generation need to match.

So that being said, I haven't pursued it unless I run across a used set with VERY close (within 1000) miles to mine. Because I don't want to go through the headache of having it programmed with MORE mileage than mine.
