225 is nothing. My buddy and I have both gotten up to 250 on a hard drive up ACH in summer, hence why I ordered the kit.

On the corvette forums guys have posted oil temps over 300, yikes!

I figure lower is always better for engine life... I'll make the decision after I go to Lime Rock in July.

X2 I can get 220-225°F with one quick WOT run to 70 or 80 mph.

To be fair, I said 225+ because that was what it read in the garage after a checkered flag lap. What it hit on the back strait behind traffic on a green flag lap I'm not sure.

I was seriously thinking about this mod.

Fir those who self installed, what was the approx time involved in installing
this kit?

225 is well in healthy zone for this motor. No need to add complexity and weight unless you need a project

it will add about 13 lbs

there are some that believe that our engines need better cooling for longevity.

I've read all that in the past. As I recall the problem is related to poor flow to the heads, uneven cooling, and slow response of system to large throttle at low speeds/higher gears. It is more an issue of rapid short term temperature spikes (poor design) than running too hot over a long time. The lo temp thermostat is supposed to help on heat spikes but I don't really see how and lowering oil temps below design parameters of oil and motor can't be good for engine wear in the long run. Radiator may lower running temps overall but won't eliminate heat spikes or uneven cooling.

So you let engine warm up before getting on it, you keep revs up and don't lug it, you change oil to grade 5 like Motul,(oil in addition to water transfers heat from heads), you change oil more often and most likely you will be fine as most of us are. Or if it gives you peace of mind and if you track a lot you add radiators and change out thermostats and maybe there is a greater chance you'll be fine. I have decided to go with care and maintenance but if you add the radiator I get it.

Good luck

Yeah I hear u.

the 3rd radiator may or may not help prevent uneven heating of the cyl head and avoid temp spikes. It can't hurt tho.

I am doing it as a precautionary measure. Since I will be replacing the water pump as well, it seems like a good time to add the center radiator and flush the coolant at same time.

I am still contemplating whether to change the thermostat to the low-temp version.

I will be interested to know if there are any correlation between % of engine failure in 997.1 manual vs 997.1 tiptronic (which already has the center radiator installed)

Ad water wetter for a 5-8 degree variation drop, Houston humidity is horrid on cooling systems.

I thought the water wetter works only with distilled water.. and not with coolant mix

pls correct me if I am wrong. thx

That is false, you will see the biggest temp drop when paired with water, but it works great with coolant too.
