Scratched black plastic lip..

I have a OEM aerokit bumper with the flat black (unpainted lip). Like an idiot I pulled too far into a parking spot and scratched it up pretty bad. The scratches aren't deep, but they're a lighter color than the rest of the lip.

Any ideas on how to clean it up? I have a hunch sanding it would only make it worse.

I did the same thing crossing an intersection in the city yesterday. It was one of those deal where I was already committed before I realized the size of the dip.

I'm going to try some polishing compound tomorrow. Was gonna do it today but everything was closed b/c of the holiday. I'm sure it'll clean up. In my case it's all clear coat scratches, but it irks me every time i look at it. I'll keep you posted on what I end up using with some before/after pics.

I did the same thing this week with my aerokit lip! I have a black GTS with the painted lip so I think I'm gonna get plasti dip spray. Ugh... It's so low.

Well, here goes nothing. About to head out to buy some compound!

And yes, that lip is deceivingly low! There are certain exits to my parking garage I simply cannot use because of that lip. But damn does it look good!

If you use plasti dip, just a caution...do 5 light coats and build it up thick as they suggest. I did just a few and it was a disaster to remove for repair later.

So this is kind of an embarrassing set of pics b/c the lip should never have taken the hit that it did, considering I know how low the car is. But **** happens. Anyway, I used this stuff:

Here's the before and after. Clearly it did a great job on the surface scratches. There's nothing that can be done about where it scraped the actual plastic.

Stock up on lips! Unfortunately nothing will stop them getting trashed unless you a/ don't drive it, or b/ live somewhere where the road planner drover a car with a low hanging lip.

Mine is exactly 4" off the ground and about a third of the roads around here cause problems, especially at intersections.

Good job on cleaning it up. You could touch up the paint where it is scraped away and it most probably wouldn't look that noticeable at all.

Ouch! Marco that looks pretty rough, but fortunately that polishing is a huge improvement.

My lip is unpainted plastic so a polish like that won't work for me.

My last car was a very low S2000 that had slightly under 3" of clearance. I scraped it constantly, but that lip had a nice flat bottom to it, so it would skid over surfaces - the 911's lip comes to a sharp edge at the bottom so when it scrapes it catches hard.

I plasti dip my lip, but it is all chipped, I am too lazy to repaint it again.
I may get a unpainted one and just let it be what it would like to be lol.

Black dyed tire dressing like "forever black" will re-dye the lighter scratches. Takes about 10 seconds. The scratches will obviously still be there but re-dying the lighter parts gets you 80% back to normal with very very little work.

It was as painful sounding as it looks

I should be used to this... my MKIII GTI was lowered 60mm with a Euro front lip. It sat lower than the Porsche, yet this one seems to give me more grief.

...and don't get me started about the time I drove a chick home from the bar. Her driveway was easily a 30 degree up-slope. The front lip took one for the team that night.

Compound may help, but most likely not. Molding black would most likely help camouflage the scratches the best.
