I just found a shop near me that specializes in Porsche so I'm going to ask them to do the gundo hack. But how do I explain it simply to them exactly what I want? I don't think I can walk in and say "I would like to order 1 gundo hack please" haha
Also, will doing the gundo hack affect smog in any way? I'm in CA and we have super strict smog laws and we need to do a smog check every 2 years :-(
Just bring a photo of the hack and that sure do it. That is what I did at a local Midas and they told me piece of cake. Sorry can't help you with the smog question.
Looks simple enough if I show them a pic. I think CA smog check is the only concern
Gundo hack won't effect emissions, just sound. It's basically a copy of the PSE design without the valves. There was a recent thread somewhere about CA emissions testing switching to plugging into the cars computer and a visual, no sniff test. I haven't had to smog anything recently so I can't confirm. My bet is assuming your muffler shop did a good job on the welds I'd have a hard time believing they could spot it.
Why not just cruise up to Darin's shop (FD Motorsports) and get the good ones put on that same day?
He makes 'em right here, and you'll pass smog for sure, 100%. If you don't, it for sure ain't the mufflers. His shop is like 60 miles from Santa Clara.
Merv, I haven't seen a technical drawing, but a quick google image search of "gundo hack shematic" pulls plenty of images that will get you close enough for Rock n' Roll.
You will even see a few decent variations on the hack which will also link back to their respective threads on various forums which is sometimes helpful too.
This modification started back in the mid 90s with the 993. I had all four of my 993s done.
It's not rocket science. Any competent muffler shop can do it and most likely charge a lot less than a shop that "specializes in Porsches". I think the last 993 was $100 for both mufflers.
Yeah I actually found a regular muffler shop near me that I'm going to check out today. Last question for anyone who knows... With this throw any error codes? In other words will the dealership be able to see via codes that I've some this? (I'm still under factory warranty which I don't want to mess with)
No, you cannot throw any codes by modifying or even changing the mufflers. Nor will this affect emissions, as others have stated. Mufflers dont do anything but muffle the noise out of the tailpipe.

Awesome ! I'm going to try and do the gundo hack today !
Go to Brentwood and see Darin. I have his mufflers and he is a great guy. Knows Porsche's and does all the work on my car. Big plus, he is walking distance my from office. I'm spoiled.
